Empathy
Empathy is the ability to sense other people’s emotions, coupled with the ability to imagine what someone else might be thinking or feeling.
Having a great deal of empathy makes you concerned for the well-being and happiness of others.
However, being empathic can sometimes get overwhelming, burned out, or even overstimulated from always thinking about other people's emotions. This can lead to empathy fatigue.
Empathy fatigue is being exhausted emotionally and physically after repeatedly being exposed to stressful or traumatic events. It is sometimes draining, especially being able to feel others' pain and going out of your way to render help every time. You might also feel numb or powerless, isolate yourself, and have a lack of energy.
When you find yourself feeling fatigued, just take a step back when it feels too much.
However, learning to have empathy is therapeutic especially if you can find a common ground.
Showing empathy can heal people from their pain.
It is even more awesome, that it was you who helped them feel better. It can be oddly satisfying rewarding and soothing. If you feel their pain, you can also feel their joy, and in that, we begin to get a measure of peace ourselves.
