Telegram Shares 50% of Advertising Revenue, TON Increases Nearly 40%

With the new policy, Telegram is now on par with platforms like YouTube and X in sharing advertising revenue with users.
According to an announcement from Pavel Durov, founder of the Telegram application, it is expected that Telegram’s advertising network will open to advertisers in March. All payments and withdrawals will be processed on The Open Network (TON) blockchain, a system built by the company for the Telegram app since 2020, but currently maintained entirely by independent developers. In July 2023, Telegram reported 800 million monthly users.
Immediately after this information, the price of TON token – the native coin of the TON Network – increased sharply, nearly 40% from 2,155 USD to more than 2.92 USD. However, the price has since dropped and currently remains at $2.69.

Telegram has not yet responded to a request for comment from CoinDesk via their official media channel. Previously, Telegram announced plans to share revenue with some channel owners, according to information on their website. Channels on Telegram serve as one-way feeds where channel creators can post content to an unlimited number of registered users.
On his channel, Mr. Durov shared that “Popular channels on Telegram reach a total of 1,000 billion views per month, but only 10% of them are currently using Telegram Ads to make money, an advertising tool. The report is designed with privacy in mind.”
Mr. Durov continued to announce, “In March, the Telegram Ad Platform will officially open to all advertisers in nearly a hundred new countries. Channel owners in these countries will start receive 50% of the revenue Telegram earns from ads appearing in their channels.”

With this new announcement, Telegram will join the list of platforms like YouTube and X (formerly Twitter), which share advertising revenue with users. In the YouTube Partner Program, YouTube shares 55% of advertising revenue with content creators, while X has started sharing revenue with users from July 2023.
