Life and Works of Müslüm Gürses Müslüm Gürses, whose real name is Müslüm Akbaş, was born on May 7, 1953 in the Halfeti district of Şanlıurfa. He is the son of Mehmet Akbaş and Emine Akbaş. Müslüm Akbaş has two brothers named Zeyno and Ahmet. Müslüm Gürses' Early Years The fact that his father, Mehmet Akbaş, played baglama and sang folk songs were among the factors that pushed Müslüm Akbaş into music. Müslüm Gürses, who lived in Şanlıurfa in his early years, later migrated to Adana for economic reasons. After a while, Müslüm abandoned the surname Akbaş and took the surname Gürses. He went through many financial difficulties during the years he lived in Şanlıurfa. For this reason, he migrated to Adana. Müslüm Gürses, who started his artistic career by singing in a coffeehouse in 1965, also worked as a tailor and shoemaker. However, he did not have much luck in Adana either. Here, Müslüm Gürses' mother suffered a serious illness and eventually died.
Müslüm Gürses participated in a competition held in Adana Tea Garden in 1967 and came first in the competition there. In fact, when he applied to join, his father was against it. Müslüm Gürses did not compromise on the issue and bought clothes for himself from the flea market to participate in the competition. On the night of the competition, while Müslüm Gürses was sleeping, his father cut his hair. However, despite all these efforts, Müslüm Gürses participated in the competition. He was chosen first in this voice competition he participated in. He already took the surname Gürses after this competition.
Müslüm Gürses appeared on the stage for a short time after this offer was made to him. However, after this period, he had to return to his main profession, tailoring. After that, one day, his friend named Mehmet suggested that Sadık Altınmeşe, who was working as a headliner in a casino, come on stage instead of him due to his illness. After his amazing performance that evening, he never left the microphone again. With this incident, he became identified with the song "Fortune Bird Bir Gün De Şaşırr Bizim Konar", which he sang when he was working at the tailor shop. Müslüm Gürses, who sang folk songs live on Saturdays on Çukurova Radio in 1967, started to release the first 45s on the market in 1968. His 45 record titled "Sevda laden Kervanlar - Vurma Güzel Vurma", which includes his debut album "Sevda laden Kervanlar", was released. This record broke a record by selling 300,000 units.In the 1970s, while Müslüm Gürses was returning from one of his Anatolian tours, he had a serious accident on the Tarsus - Adana road when the driver fell asleep. As a result of this accident, the driver died. Müslüm Gürses was also taken to the morgue, assuming he was dead. Müslüm Gürses opened his eyes in the morgue. Müslüm Gürses, who was discovered alive at the last moment, was immediately taken into surgery. But there is a problem.
Because he suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident. And now his life will change completely. He was never the same after his accident. Müslüm Gürses will no longer be able to smell, will have little hearing and will speak slowly. In fact, if he gets the slightest blow to his head, he will go blind or lose his life. Headaches will no longer leave Müslüm Gürses, who has been suffering from constant headaches until now. Müslüm Gürses' songs always contain grief, fate and pain. In fact, among his songs of this type are "sorrowful and doomed", "I fell sick, my God", "Great God, What an Ordeal", "So Much Torture is a Sin", "Enough, God, Enough". Müslüm Gürses completed his military service and became famous by releasing 34 records in total. In the 1990s, he attracted the attention of many audiences with his arabesque songs, and the audience recognized Müslüm Gürses, who became the king of arabesque songs, as Müslüm Baba, and Müslüm Gürses began to be known as Müslüm Baba all over Turkey.

In 1986, Müslüm Gürses and Muhterem Nur united their lives and got married. The couple continued their lives very happily.Müslüm Gürses had by-pass surgery on November 18, 2012. He experienced lung and intestinal problems after the surgery. In addition, liver and kidney failure problems have also emerged. Müslüm Gürses remained in intensive care for 4 months after the surgeries. He passed away on March 3, 2013. Müslüm Baba is not forgotten A museum was opened in his name in his hometown, Şanlıurfa, 3 years ago. In this museum, the clothes he wore on stage throughout his life, musical instruments, records and cassettes, photographs and wax sculptures are exhibited. Müslüm Gürses fans are visiting the museum accompanied by Müslüm Baba's songs.

Throughout his life, Gürses never distinguished himself in the media. He was always on the side of poor people. When you look at his clothes in the museum, you see that he is one of the people. Müslüm Baba was always in touch with the people. For us, Gürses was Şanlıurfa's mega iftar.” he said.
