The Power of Branding: My Enduring Passion

How did Nike's "Just Do It" campaign fundamentally change attitudes about fitness for generations? Why did the "Think Small" campaign for the quirky VW Beetle strike such a disruptive chord? I marveled at how Coke versus Pepsi was more than just a sugar water battle—they were entire lifestyle brands reflecting different personalities and values.
From that point on, I immersed myself in the cerebral side of branding—studying the psychology, strategy, positioning, and identity work involved in fostering a cohesive brand experience. I read books and articles from the thought leaders. I scrutinized brand storytelling from corporate giants and feisty upstarts alike. And with each new discovery, my passion grew deeper.
These days, whether I'm analyzing brands from an academic perspective or witnessing new branding campaigns hit the market, my fascination remains as fervent as ever. Branding represents the very apex of creativity and ingenuity in marketing—the ability to transcend products and services to establish something greater and more meaningful in the minds and hearts of consumers.
For me, iconic brands like Apple, Disney, Harley-Davidson, and others reflect the pinnacle of brilliant branding. Yes, they sell products and services, but their brands evoke aspirations, tribal-like affinities, and even counter-cultural affiliations that captivate people on a grand scale.
