Guard who killed a man by stoning is remanded by the court.
In connection with an alleged murder, a 37-year-old security guard named Michael Pius was remanded in custody on Tuesday at the Tafawa Balewa Square by the Lagos State High Court.
The defendant was taken before Justice Yetunde Adesanya after being charged with murder on one count.
According to PUNCH Metro, the dead, Paul Assigno, and the defendant were having a disagreement when it turned into a fight, and Pius then stoned the victim to death.
Olayemi Shofolu, the Lagos State prosecutor, declared his appearance when the case was called for arraignment, while Alexander Oshogba appeared for the defendant.
According to Shofolu, the event took place on December 3, 2018, at 93 Falolu Street in the Surulere neighborhood of Lagos State.
He claimed Pius struck Assigno in the chest with a stone to murder him.
The prosecution claims that the offense violates Section 223 of the 2015 Criminal Law of Lagos State. The defendant, however, entered a not guilty plea to the accusation. Shofolu requested a trial date from the court after entering his plea. Justice Adesanya remanded the defendant in custody and set the trial's start date on January 24.
