Child abuse: Reason why most of our youths are going wild.
As an African, there are measures parents and adults discipline their children or young one that should be termed as CHILD ABUSE.
How can a parent beat a child with the child's head facing downwards?
This is a tip of the iceberg.
Stay with me đ.
Once in my neighborhood, I heard about this young boy who beat his junior sister who is not more than 5 years old, with a machete.
It was the talk of town and it was so pathetic such that the mark of machete was there on this little girl's back.
The World Health Organization terms Child Abuse as ' Child Maltreatment ' and it is defined as ' the abuse and neglect that occurs to children under 18 years of age. It includes all types physical and or emotional ill treatment, sexual abuse, neglect, negligence[let me stop here].
In Africa, sexual abuse does happen in some cases but it's not very common.
Sexual abuse is more common in continents as Europe etc.
Now since more countries in Africa are undeveloped, there are few and limited job opportunities for those who are above 18.
It will interest you to know that children even above 18 can still get abused because they are not independent as they are meant to be.
On a personal note, I stand for Child Discipline and NOT Child Abuse. A child should be left to learn his or her mistakes, with guidance.
I also believe that a child should be corrected by an adult but also, after correction, the adult should draw close to the child.
This is where parents and adults have missed it, drawing close to the child.
There is a level of pride and entitlement parents and adults have such that they feel drawing close to a child they have disciplined is a sign of weakness, they expect it to be the other way aroundđ.
Is it the disciplinarian or the disciplined who needs consolation?
I'm sure you know the answerđ.
When I say ' discipline ' I don't mean with harmful or sharp objects or in an inhumane manner. There should be moderation in all thingsđ.
To children who suffer sexual abuse, I don't know how to explain that.
I can remember the feeling I had when someone beat my buttocks while playing when I was younger.
I must have been very quiet throughout the day because my teacher really emphasized when teaching that we should never let anyone touch our private parts.
So I couldn't explain to myself why I let someone touch my private part, reason being that I was playingđ
.
I became very protective of myself from that day onwards đ.
But that is by the way.
No child should ever be abused sexually because it has a way of changing their personality.
Some may become very conserved and depressed while others may get so wild but still depressed.
Most Worrisome Effect Child Abuse Has On Its Victims
There are many effects of Child Abuse and they can go as far as leading to the DEATH of the victim.
The most worrisome effect child abuse has on its victims is on their Mental Health.
Most cases of mental disorders apart from those which are as a result of birth defects are as a result of CHILD ABUSE.
Depression and low self-esteem is slowly killing the vibrance of our youths.
These youths become so conserved and sad that they try to shift their attention and they resort to doing evil things such as pornography, drinking, joining cults or bad gangs, taking drugs, selling drugs etc.
Parents and adults should learn to draw close to the children under care especially when these children have been disciplined by them.
Mental disorders can go as far as the child being diagnosed with 'OCD'(Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) where a person experiences repeated intrusive thoughts which he or she manages with ritual behaviours.
Studies says it cannot be cured but can only be managed.
Please parents and adults, caution your wards with caređ¤.
Caution with love.
Let the children under your care know you're correcting them with a heart of love and not otherwise.
We need our youths healthy and sane, for the future rests on them.
Please save our children, discipline them with love and NOT abuse.
Ciaoâ¤ď¸!
