With the Crypto market growing strongly since the beginning of 2024, this is attracting more and more new entrants to the market. Along with attractive profit opportunities, users will also face more and more sophisticated fraud methods from Hackers, always waiting to take money from inexperienced people.

So what are the most common scams of Hackers? How to "rescue" assets that have been accidentally hacked? Let's find out in this article!

Three forms hackers often use

1.1. Sending fake emails

The most common form of fraud today is sending fake emails. The reason hackers like this method is because they can reach a large number of users, without incurring many costs compared to other forms such as sending SMS messages or offline advertising.

At the beginning of this year, the famous news site Cointelegraph had to warn about a series of fake emails with airdrop information aimed at appropriating user assets. Total losses of trapped users from this event amounted to 580,000 USD.

In a context where the Crypto community is becoming more excited than ever, crooks have preyed on this greed by luring users to access malicious links. When users click on the link, the malicious code will automatically drain the assets in their Web3 wallet.

According to Scam Sniffer, in just the first 2 months of the year, about 97,000 users were affected by online Crypto scams, resulting in total losses of up to 104 million USD.

Cointelegraph's incident is not the only case, as many other famous Crypto projects such as Wallet Connect, Token Terminal & De.Fi also had their emails faked by hackers to scam users.

1.2. Fake website on Google

Currently, Crypto scammers often use two main methods to fake websites on Google: inserting extra letters or changing the domain name of the official website.

For example: The official website of Bittrex is bittrex.com. Hackers will change this name according to the above two methods as follows:

Change the letter: blttrex.com (replace the letter i with the letter l, these two letters are very similar)

Change domain name: bittrex.co (change domain name from .com to .co, only 1 letter removed)

Users who want to learn information about the Crypto market on Google should pay special attention to the following common forms of Crypto fraud:

Fake trading floors: Thieves create websites impersonating reputable trading floors to lure investors to deposit money.

Fake interactive link: Thieves create a website pretending to be a reputable project, with scam links that trick unwary users into connecting their wallets and interacting with the project.

Fake airdrop portals: These websites will require users to connect their wallets to receive tokens, thereby using malicious code to drain their funds.

As long as the user does one of the above operations, the thief will be able to steal all assets from the victim's wallet.

1.3. Telegram messages

Telegram is one of the top two platforms for discussing cryptocurrencies besides X (Twitter), but also attracts great attention from fraudsters. Overall, most of these cryptocurrency scams have something in common – they target inexperienced users and those new to the cryptocurrency scene.

Here are the main phishing methods through Telegram:

Fake Telegram group: Wire is one of the most successful and dangerous scams on Telegram. This group can contain messages & admins very similar to the real group but will often include a message containing scam content such as the opportunity to buy tokens early at a discount, enticement to join a "ghost" project. , ..

Fake user: The scammer will message the user directly, pretending to be an administrator or support staff of the Telegram group. Typically, they will pretend to be interested in your question and offer to help – often ending up asking for your private key or recovery phrase, or convincing you log into a platform designed to steal this information.

Users should always be careful with the above two fraud methods. Besides, you can also avoid most of the risk of fraud by changing the group invitation setting to "My Contacts Only".

First, you access the Settings section of your Telegram account. Then, click on Privacy and Security, where you will select Groups and Channels and adjust the status to My Contacts.

How to avoid fraud in the Crypto market

Through the above information, readers also have a better understanding of the most common forms of fraud today. So what do we need to do to prevent being "trapped" by hackers?

Crypto users need to adhere to the following security notes:

·      Be careful with all incoming emails, whether from large projects or reputable platforms because thieves can take control of these parties' emails.

·      Always be alert and thoroughly check the Web page URL, Attachments before downloading or entering information or signing any signatures

·      Thoroughly research the project you intend to interact with, especially be careful with unreliable Crypto exchanges & wallets.

How to rescue assets if your wallet is accidentally hacked

So in case you unfortunately become a victim of fraud, what should you do?

Wallet Rescue is the application that helps solve this problem, by "rescuing" your crypto assets from a wallet attacked by a hacker installing a bot, safely to a new wallet.

Real-life example: A user used Wallet Rescue to Claim Airdrop AEVO worth 1,000 USD from a hacked wallet, only losing 60 USD in fees through 3 transactions:

Transfer ETH from new wallet to hacked wallet as waste.

Proceed to claim the airdrop with the fee just transferred.

Transfer AEVO back to the new wallet.

All three transactions above were performed simultaneously with a delay between orders of less than 0.5 seconds, so the hacker bot could not process them in time.

You can refer to the following detailed instructions from 5Money to "rescue" assets from hacked wallets: "What is Wallet Rescue? How to rescue a hacked Crypto wallet".
