The Lost City of Shicheng
This Chinese city has stood safely on the surface for more than twelve centuries. But in 1959, the Chinese government decided to create an artificial lake called Qingdao, known as the Lake of a Thousand Islands.
The construction of a hydroelectric dam resulted in 573 square kilometers of land being submerged. The islands left on the surface of the lake occupy an area of about 86 square kilometers.
Once submerged, Lion City has a chance to survive even longer. No sunlight, no wind or erosion.
