Those who ignore innovations and do not know how to change the old when necessary are doomed to lose. Blockchain and smart contracts, which emerged with Bitcoin as an innovation of the last 10 years, are technologies that will cause great opportunities to be lost if overlooked. The potential of blockchain technology and smart contracts to open doors to major changes in terms of privacy, reliability and convenience by eliminating third parties in transactions that require trust, offers development opportunities in the field of healthcare, especially in the security and confidentiality of patient data. Despite all these opportunities, not only are there no Turkish publications written on the reflections of blockchain technology in the field of health, there are even very few Turkish publications dealing with the basic functioning of this technology. For this reason, in the article, it is aimed to contribute to the Turkish literature by explaining how blockchain technology and smart contracts work in a way that does not require coding knowledge to understand, and by including three application examples in the field of health.
