Michael Corbett Shannon, born on August 7, 1974, is an esteemed American actor known for his versatile performances across film, television, and stage. He has established a fruitful collaboration with director Jeff Nichols, appearing in several of Nichols' acclaimed films, including Shotgun Stories (2007), Take Shelter (2011), Mud (2012), Midnight Special (2016), and Loving (2016). Their collaboration continued with The Bikeriders in 2023.
Shannon has received recognition for his outstanding performances, garnering two Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his roles in Revolutionary Road (2008) and Nocturnal Animals (2016). Michael Shannon was born on August 7, 1974, in Lexington, Kentucky, to parents Donald Sutherlin Shannon, an accounting professor at DePaul University, and Geraldine Hine, a lawyer. His lineage includes his paternal grandfather, Raymond Corbett Shannon, who was an entomologist.
Following his parents' divorce, Shannon split his time between Lexington, where he lived with his mother, and Chicago, Illinois, where he resided with his father. He attended New Trier Township High School in Winnetka, Illinois, for two years before transferring to Henry Clay High School in Lexington, Kentucky, for his junior year. During his time in Lexington, he engaged in activities such as the Lexington Children's Theatre summer camp and played bass in his first band, The Jehovah Suspects. For his senior year, Shannon returned to Chicago and enrolled at Evanston Township High School, from which he dropped out after completing one semester.


Michael Shannon's career has been marked by a diverse array of roles across film, television, and theater.
