OP Mainnet Moves Forward to Decentralization u3000Fault Proof Full Version Test Launch
Enhanced decentralization levels
Ethereum L2 (Layer 2) OP Mainnet (formerly Optimism) released the full version of its "Fault Proof" feature on OP Sepolia, its main testnet, on March 19.
This move strengthens the decentralization level of OP Mainnet and is one of the conditions for moving from "Stage 1" to "Stage 2" in the L2 rollup evaluation criteria, which relates to the ability to submit proof of fraud not only from authenticated actors, but also from general participants.
Fault Proof is expected to serve as a mechanism to increase the security of Ethereum's Layer 2 network and reduce the risk of relying on third-party trust in processes involving ETH and ERC-20 token withdrawals.
If approved by OP Governance for inclusion in the "OP Stack" open source development stack, OP Mainnet will reach "Stage 2" of decentralization, he says, and will lead the competition in terms of decentralization and security.

Many Layer 2 solutions, including OP, currently rely on security councils and multiple signatures (multisig) provided by specific companies Many projects are positioned at Stage 0, which indicates the degree of decentralization.
Note that one of the conditions for moving to Stage 1, which Arbitrum has been awarded, is that the basic functions must be verified by a third party.
OP Mainnet is "Ethereum's Layer 2 blockchain that employs a verification approach called Optimistic rollup, with total assets (TVL) deposited in the network reaching $7 billion (survey by L2Beat).

Beneficial for other L2s built with OP Stack
Fault Proof is a modular, open source system that can be applied to Layer 2 chains built using the OP Stack; for example, Coinbase has adopted the OP Stack for its Base development.
By adopting Fault Proof, the OP Stack and related chains can rely completely on the proofs without the need for a security council as a safety net.
Fault Proof will be introduced in the Superchain mainnet, a horizontally scalable network of multiple blockchains sharing the OP Stack, proposed by Optimism, with participation from Optimism, Coinbase-backed Layer 2 chain Base, and Binance's opBNB.

What is L2?
Layer 2 is an abbreviation for "Layer 2" and refers to the second layer of the network; if all transactions are processed on the main chain, the load on the main chain increases, leading to slower processing speeds and higher network fees.
