Israel has lost the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, a former Israeli army commander claims.
You cannot lie to many people for a long time,” retired Major General Yitzhak Brick, former Israeli army commander, said in an article published in Maariv newspaper on Sunday, March 17. He also warned: “What is happening in the Gaza Strip and against Hezbollah in Lebanon will sooner or later embarrass us.

Mr. Brick said Israel's home front "is not prepared for a regional war, which would be thousands of times more difficult and severe than the war in the Gaza Strip."

The former military commander criticized Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, saying he acted "detached" from reality. “He lost control of the ground a long time ago, but he has started appointing colonels and lieutenant colonels like himself,” Major General Yitzhak Brick said.

We have lost the war with Hamas and we are also losing allies around the world at a rapid rate. This is the most serious scandal since the establishment of the army," Mr. Brick further explained. Israel launched a deadly military attack on the Gaza Strip in response to a Hamas raid on October 7, 2023 that killed nearly 1,200 people in Israel.

Since then, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, more than 31,600 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in Gaza and nearly 73,700 others have been injured. Meanwhile, massive destruction of Gaza's infrastructure and serious shortages of necessities are threatening to cause famine for people in the area.

Israel refuses to halt the war in Gaza until Hamas returns more than 130 hostages held by the armed group since October last year. “If we cannot release those kidnapped by Hamas, this war will go down in the public mind as the worst defeat in Israel's wars since the founding of the state, including including the terrible attack we suffered from Hamas on October 7, 2023 and which led to the painful defeat in the fighting in the Gaza Strip,” Mr. Brick warned.

According to the United Nations, Israel's war has forced 85% of Gaza's population to internally evacuate in the context that most food, clean water and medicine have been depleted. 60% of the area's infrastructure was damaged or destroyed.

Israel was accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to ensure its forces did not commit genocide and to ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza but was ignored by the country.
