Ramdan
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, refraining from food, drink, smoking, and marital relations. Fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is intended to purify the soul, develop self-discipline, and increase empathy for those less fortunate. The pre-dawn meal before the fast begins is called Suhoor, and the meal to break the fast at sunset is called Iftar. Besides fasting, Muslims also engage in increased prayer, recitation of the Quran, and acts of charity during Ramadan. The month concludes with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, a joyous festival marking the end of fasting, where Muslims gather for communal prayers, feasting, and giving of gifts. Ramadan holds significant spiritual and social importance, fostering unity, compassion, and spiritual growth among Muslims worldwide.
