Roshan's father was a farmer, and wanted to make him a good person and a great man by educating him, but when Roshan was young, he used to ask for a lot of money from his father while going to school. Gradually this became his habit. Father kept giving him money as usual, Roshan got the money.

He would spend it with useless friends and would keep repeating 'I will not go to school' if he did not get the money. Everyone at home loved him very much, so whenever his father refused to give him money, his mother, grandparents, or other family members would hand over the money to him so as not to disappoint him. When Roshan was in school, he used to take ten rupees from home every day and spend it on useless expenses like having fun with friends and buying unnecessary things from shops. Now Roshan was growing up and after passing school he took admission in college. Now Roshan was not going to get the pulses worth Rs 10, he started taking Rs 100/- every day from his father. Since Roshan was bright in studies, it felt right to give money to his father but at the same time he felt very bad about his wasteful expenditure. One day, before going to college, Roshan asked his father for money, but now his father was fed up with his bad habits and refused to give him money. But he had developed the habit of spending unnecessarily. One day he somehow spent without money, but the next day when he asked his father about money, his father clearly told him that Roshan, I cannot give you any more money. Father continued saying, Son Roshan, I will give you money on the same day when you bring me a hundred rupees from your earnings, till then you will not get even a single rupee from home. Roshan agreed to his father. At night, while sleeping, Roshan started thinking that tomorrow I have to give Rs 100/- to my father by whatever means, only then will he give me the money. Roshan secretly went to his mother and said to her, Mother, you know that father has put a condition, can you give me a hundred rupees so that I can tell him that I have earned it. The mother gave hundred rupees to her son without saying anything. In the evening, Roshan came to his father with the money and said, “Here, father, I have earned a hundred rupees today.” Father had understood that it was not his hard-earned money. He said to his son, “Son Roshan, I am very happy that you have earned money with your hard work today, go and throw this money in the fire.” Roshan did as his father said and threw the money in the fire. Father said, now you will give me 100 rupees every day during this week.

Roshan nodded and went to sleep.

Roshan also took money from the rest of the family members and in the evening father did the same thing and this sequence continued for five days and the money kept getting burnt in the fire.

Now Roshan was not able to think of anything, now he decided that he would not ask for money from anyone and the next day he started working hard at a place and got two hundred rupees in return for that hard work.

He ran to his father and said, “Here, father, take my hard-earned money.”

Father thought that he must have asked for money from one of his friends and repeated the same thing, go and throw this money in the fire. But this time Roshan did not throw the money in the fire and told father that father, this is really my hard-earned money and I will never throw it in the fire.

With so much hard work I have earned every single rupee, please forgive me, I cannot throw it away.

Father understood that this was indeed hard-earned money. But still he insisted on his son that if he did not throw away this money, he would himself throw it in the fire.

“Forgive me, father, but I will not let my hard-earned money be thrown away like this, only I know how hard I have earned it.” Roshan said,

Father said - Son, I just wanted to tell you that with so much hard work we earn every single rupee and you do the same thing as burning them in unnecessary expenses. You are my son, you have the right on my money, I am earning only for you, but today you must have understood how it feels if you throw your earnings in fire.

Roshan understood his father's words and immediately apologized to his father and said, "Father, today you have really taught me a big lesson."

Friends, parents earn only for their children but we have no right to use their hard-earned money for unnecessary expenses. One of the reasons for spoiling children is that whatever money the son/daughter asks for, you give it to him/her, do not explain to him/her the value of money. After all, take full care that he never has to face the same problems that you once had to face.

Thank you !
