NFF: Obey court order, federal government tells football stakeholders
On Wednesday in Abuja, the Federal Government encouraged those involved in Nigerian football to maintain their composure and adhere by a Federal High Court injunction from September 15.
The Nigeria Football Federation scheduled the elections for the NFF Executive Committee for the years 2022 to 2026 for this Friday in Benin, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
The Federal Government, however, requested that the stakeholders "not do anything, or take any more actions, particularly with relation to the elections," according to a statement from Ismaila Abubakar, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
He said that recent changes to the NFF Elective Congress, which was earlier set for Friday, were not lost on the ministry.
“The ministry is also aware of the Federal High Court order, by Justice I.E. Ekwo on Sept. 15, whereby the court had directed all parties, including NFF and the Minister of Youth and Sports Development to maintain status quo ante pending the final Order of Court.”
