Cristiano Ronaldo, The Great Soccer Superstar : Saudi Becomes Final Career Choice, Retires There
Cristiano Ronaldo, star of Al Nassr FC, expressed his views on the Saudi Pro League and its future after Lionel Messi became the new player of Inter Miami CF. In an interview with Sky Sports, CR7 stated:
"Before deciding to go to Al Nassr, it was rumored that you were going to MLS?" "The Saudi League (Saudi Pro League, ed) is better than MLS."
"Your decision to choose the Saudi Pro League was criticized by many parties. Your response?" "Indeed they criticize. But, what is happening now? Many players (top European, ed) are coming (to the Saudi Pro League, ed)."
"Do you feel like you are a pioneer for European players who are now pursuing a career in the Saudi Pro League?" "My decision to join a Saudi club was 100 percent important to attract other top players. That's a fact. Wherever Ronaldo goes, it becomes a magnet in itself."
"Before the Saudi Pro League phenomenon, have you ever felt the same way?" "When I joined Juventus (in 2018, ed), Serie A was practically dead. Then, after I joined, the league felt alive again."
"Your opinion regarding European players who are now pursuing careers in the Saudi Pro League?" "All the players who have arrived are not close to retirement. Jota and Ruben Neves are still at a productive age."
"Will this continue or is it just a trend?" "In the next year, I'm sure more and more top players will have careers in Saudi."
"If that's the case, what will the long-term effects be?" "Of course the quality will continue to improve. I am also sure that this league (Saudi Pro League, ed) can overtake the quality of the Super Lig and Eredivisie."
"About the future, are you still targeting returning to a career in Europe?" "The door is closed on returning to Europe. I'm 38.5 years old now."
Apart from that, Ronaldo also gave his views on the elite leagues in Europe, "European football has lost its quality. Almost everything, except the Premier League which is superior."
