Anxiety Disorder
Anxiety is the body's normal reaction to stress. It is apprehension or fear about what is to come. Going to a job interview or giving a speech on the first day of school, for example, may make some people fearful and nervous.
It's normal to be nervous about relocating, starting a new job, or taking a test. This is an unpleasant type of anxiety, but it may motivate you to work harder and do a better job. Ordinary anxiety is a feeling that comes and goes but doesn’t interfere with your everyday life.
In the case of an anxiety disorder, you may experience fear all of the time. It's intense and, at times, incapacitating. This type of anxiety may cause you to abandon activities that you enjoy. In extreme cases, it may prevent you from entering an elevator, crossing the street, or even leaving your home. If the anxiety is not treated, it will worsen.
Anxiety disorders are serious mental illnesses that cause persistent worry or fear, which may worsen over time. We all experience anxiety from time to time, but with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety is fairly constant and has a significant negative and intrusive impact on quality of life.
