Splinterlands | Only Melee Attackers | Blast Rule in Play | Strategy?
Splinterlands
One of my favorite rules is the melee-only attack rule. Thatβs the only time we can play our melee cards to the full without worrying about magic attacks. But that is also the time to strategize using the best cards with armor, shield, divine shield, etc.
When the melee-only rule is combined with the blast-rule it is even better. We know exactly the cards that should be in the first, second, and other positions. This would be a bit difficult if there were magic or melee cards in play. However, since this game just has the melee cards, it should be relatively easy.
Shall we look at a battle? Yes, we should. But before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, thatβs where you will find all these fun battles, rules, and monsters.
What Game is Splinterlands?
Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. ***The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning.*** By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.
To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.
Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs
And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. In fact, there is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too. And now the sales of the Rebellion packs, the newest of the lot, have also started.

Melee Cards and Blast Rule
When we have to take only melee monsters into the battle, the strategizing part is that much easier. You can look at monsters with shields in the first position and the second. That way, if the tank is attacked, the blast wonβt harm the second monster much. Not only that but also shield monsters, summoners with shields, summoners with thorns, and more are something that we can think about.
Furthermore, we can look at cards with shields for the back of the lineup as well. All-in-all it would be pretty airtight to strategize. I am hoping Iβve got it right.
Letβs see.
The Battle | Frowns and Angry Brows
We will take a look at the rules and then proceed to the battle.
The game has a 20-mana cap and it is one with a melee-only rule and blast rule in play. It also has conditions for not having epic and legendary cards. Only Water, Earth, and Life Splinters are allowed. It serves my purpose as I will be taking the Earth Splinter to battle.
Why? We will know soon.
The Face-Off Screen
And here is the lineup.
My team is at the top of the screen while the opponent is at the bottom. As expected both of us have used summoners that aid melee or harm melee monsters. The opponent has a summoner that gives all their monsters a shield, while I have one that has thorns. So, all monsters attacking my team will get attacked back (in a sense).
The opponentβs tank also reduces all my monsters' attack value by one. But thatβs okay, I needed monsters with higher health anyway. Remember, this is a blast rule as well.
Letβs see how we fare in the game.
We Battle Hard
By the middle of round 3, this is how it was.
Both teams had two monsters left. If we look at the health, my team seems to be at an advantage. The opponentβs tank perishing allowed my teamβs attack value to come to its normal value. Now, it was game on.
And how did it conclude? Scroll down to see for yourself.
And The Battle Races to Conclusion
The battle was well-matched.
It took us four more rounds to conclude. I won by a whisker. If you watch the video, you will notice that my card had two consecutive misses. That would have been enough to lose the battle. It was only because of the thorns that I could make it.
Phew, I won!
A Hard-Fought Battle | An Interesting Result
This battle was a really good one in some time. The very fact that it went down to the wire and I barely survived is testimony to how good a competition it was. Just a wee bit down on health and this battle could have been a draw, let alone the possibility of loss for me.
I loved the battle. How about you? I hope you enjoyed reading about the battle too. You can also look at it live in the links provided below. Have fun! π
