Today I will be discussing the impact of Gender stereotypes and how these are conveyed in sport and how they affect players, audience and aspiring athletes. Gender stereotypes are shown in ads, movies, stories and tv shows. The media promotes these gender stereotypes by using different genders and costuming based of what circumstance the company is in.

A gender stereotype is defined as a generalized view or preconception about attributes, or characteristics that are or thought to be possessed by women and men or the roles that are or should be performed by men and women. These stereotypes can negatively affect behaviour, the way we see ourselves, the jobs we choose and how we approach certain situations. These stereotypes are being used and keep feeding them with ads, toys and movies.

Can we see boys and girls differently depending on what colour we dress them in? most people think that these stereotypes are harmless but they can really affect your personal and emotional connection let's say for example you are at work and you boss is treating you different because of you being a certain gender say if your a boy you are expected to do the labor side and the girl does the more inside and less labour. This can be shown in lots of movies where men are being stereotyped to do certain jobs the same as the women, an example the movie brave where a young girl is forced to be a princess and choose a king from the group of people her parents have choose she wants to go away and travel the world with her bow an arrow, the movie is showing that girls aren't smart enough to make chives for themselves and they should be made for her.

In the videos I have chosen it shows the stereotype that men are the footy players and the girls are the dancers and the main character of the ad is a boy. The people that are making these ads don't know that what they are doing is wrong but the stereotype is just in the back of the mind why can't a girl be the main character she can love footy just as much as a young boy and this is why that gender stereotypes keep going on and on because it so easy to go with the stereotype without actually knowing it.

We also see these stereotypes in movies and tv shows for example Wanda vision where there is the woman cleaning around the house cooking meals and looking after the kids and the man is out working and comes home to a meal the woman is also shown in lots of makeup and dresses, in an episode of the show their is a magic show and the woman is the assistant in a pretty costume while the man is doing all the tricks this is a form af male domination which is also promoting the gender stereotypes it's crazy even big producers use stereotypes and it shows the world about the stereotype and that's how people will live their life.

Did you know Forty percent of all sports participants are female, yet women's sports receive only 4% of all sport media coverage and female athletes are much more likely than male athletes to be portrayed in sexually provocative poses. How are women meant to show how good they are if there's no opportunity.

In conclusion stereotypes are indeed a serious issue that doesn't get talked about enough change needs to be made globally so that we do not have young kids thinking that a man should do this a woman has to do that because it's not right to define someone for their gender. People are not restricted to society's understanding or limitations of gender roles and the way genders act and behave.
