Aussie, Ethan Ewing, 23, from North Stradbroke Island, Queensland, has won his first CT (Championship Tour) event, edging out fellow Aussie, Jack Robinson, from Margaret River, Western Australia, in awesome surfing conditions in South Africa.
Ethan & Jack were the dominant surfers through the event, taking some huge scalps in the perfect solid right hand waves. They overcame Japanese Kanoa Igarashi and Brazilian Yago Dora respectfully in their semi finals to book a ticket in the finals.
In the Women’s event, Hawaiian, Tatiana Weston-Webb, turned Brazilian (after marrying former Brazilian World Junior Champ Jesse Mendez) edged out Aussie, Tyler Wright, from Culburra, on the South Coast of NSW.
Theres a couple of weeks break until the next event, where our surfers head up into the South Pacific, to Tahiti and the infamous Teahpoo (pronounced Chow poo) a very gnarly, shallow left hand reef break, that offers some of the best barrels on the planet when it’s good - in fact, just this week, this wave really turned on, with massive swells hitting the reef, providing some insane tube rides. It’ll be a very interesting competition if the waves are nuts like this past week, but can’t wait for this one 🌊 🤙.
