ABOUT A MALE CHILD.
“When I give birth to my children, I will take extra care of my male children”.
That was what a female corps member said some time ago in the evening. We had had a little chat about the 33k monthly allawee that most of us were depending on. The conversation revealed that she had her ways of getting money for her upkeep outside the meagre 33k that could do little in comparison to the high cost of living that wants to kill the living.
She breathed out the above statement pointing at the fact that females are advantaged in this society and time of ours. One way or the other, family focuses more on the female child; admirers give the female child lots of support; most guys would rather give a soft landing to ladies that may not even need it after all than give it to their fellow guys; the system automatically favours them; and so on.
So, there you have it. A concerned and potential mother, after seeing the plight of her male counterparts in the system that we are all mazing around in, announced that she will focus more on her male children. No, she did not say she will ignore her female children, but the daughters of Eve will always find their way around if they decide to not depend on family.
If you ask me, she is right. It is not easy to be a man in today’s African society. You are assumed to be doing fine, supposed to be doing fine, better be doing fine, and considered last. And I am in no way saying that men should be lazy and dependent; nah! But it is what it is.
May we always win, Sadiq Yusuf.
