A Hot Sunday

How it Started

Despite being in the rainy season, the day began unusually hot. The night before had seen a significant downpour, and I expected a cool, refreshing morning. However, by 8:45 AM, the sun was already blazing in the sky, quickly turning the weather sweltering. As I prepared for church, I could already feel the warmth creeping in, a sharp contrast to the cool breeze the rain had brought just hours earlier.

By the time I arrived at the church service, the heat had intensified. Inside the church, it felt like a furnace. The fans were on, but they seemed to offer little respite. I sat there, sweating profusely, my handkerchief quickly becoming damp. The discomfort of the heat made it hard to focus, and I found myself wishing the service would end sooner than usual. Unfortunately, that was not to be the case. A series of long programs and announcements extended the service, and with every passing minute, the heat seemed to bear down on me even more.
I was constantly wiping my brow, shifting in my seat, and fighting the growing urge to step outside for fresh air. The once peaceful sanctuary of the church had become an uncomfortable environment, and I couldn’t wait for the service to close. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the service concluded, and I hurried to my car, hoping for a cool ride home.

Disappointment From the Air Conditioning

To my dismay, the moment I entered the car, it felt like an oven. The heat inside was stifling, almost unbearable. Hoping for relief, I quickly turned on the air conditioning. But after a few minutes of driving, I realized something was wrong, the AC wasn’t working properly. Despite being on full blast, there was no significant cooling, and the air inside the car remained suffocating. Frustrated, I had no choice but to endure the hot drive home, rolling down the windows in hopes of catching a breeze, but the air outside was just as hot.

Another Disappointment at Home

When I finally arrived home, I hoped to escape the heat by going indoors. But as soon as I stepped inside, I was greeted with another unwelcome surprise, the power was out. No fans, no air conditioning, just the stagnant, oppressive heat that seemed to cling to everything. I was hot, sweaty, and utterly exhausted. It was as if the universe had conspired to ensure that no matter where I went, I couldn’t escape the heat.

Hours passed, and the heat remained relentless. Every moment without power felt longer than the last. I could feel the frustration building within me as I sought even the slightest relief from the scorching temperature. It wasn’t until 5:35 PM that the power finally came back on, bringing with it the gentle hum of the fans. While they offered some comfort, the fans were barely enough to combat the lingering heat. The air was still warm, and I could feel the sweat still clinging to my skin.

By the end of the day, I was completely drained. The heat had taken its toll, turning what should have been a peaceful Sunday into a day of discomfort. Despite the return of electricity, the weather remained hot, and it seemed that no matter what I did, the heat followed me everywhere. Looking back, it was one of those days that reminded me just how relentless nature can be, even when you least expect it.

Happy Sunday!
