The Cybersecurity Vault - episode #36, with guest Ira Winkler, the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of CYE.

Today we talked in depth about about the massive global IT outage, that effected over eight million devices, which was caused by the cybersecurity vendor CrowdStrike. The impacts continue to be tabulated, with a current estimate exceeding five billion dollars. Banks, ATMs, train stations and airports were impacted. Delta Airlines delayed or cancelled thousands of flights and had difficulties for several days. The issue impacted Windows OS systems and resulted in the dreaded Blue Screens of Death (BSODs). The fix often required a technician to visit the device and manually apply fixes. Although not declared a cyberattack, this incident is bringing to light potential issues for cybersecurity solutions and the fragility of the global computing ecosystem!

We discuss:
- What CrowdStrike did wrong
- What CrowdStrike did right
- What CrowdStrike needs to do going forward
