Himeji Castle – Japan part 1
Himeji Castle is located in the center of Himeji city, 100km east of Osaka. Himeji along with Matsumoto and Kumamoto castles are called the three great castles, i.e. the three most famous castles of Japan. Among them, Himeji has the longest history.
The castle was built by Samurai warrior Akamatsu Norimura in 1346. Built on a mountain nearly 50m above sea level, the castle's foundation is made of large stones assembled together. The castle's walls are made entirely of wood and covered with white plaster, so they are very timeless. In 1993, Himeji Castle was recognized by Unesco as a world cultural heritage.
Although it has existed for more than 600 years, the citadel still retains its majestic appearance. Therefore, Himeji Castle is also known as "White Crane Castle".
A special feature of the castle is its extremely complicated maze-like defense system. To get to the main building of the castle, you have to go through many different gates, inner courtyards, outer courtyards, and therefore it is very difficult for enemies to penetrate. That's why the castle was an absolutely safe haven for kings and officials in the past

Right in front of the entrance to Himeji Castle, visitors can admire the precious cherry blossom tree that blooms all year round. This is one of the attractions for tourists, especially those who do not have the opportunity to come to Japan to see cherry blossoms in the spring.
