One Week Review in BULB

Before we begin, I want to clarify that I am not a smoker. There was only one instance when I tried smoking, and that was when I was six years old. My father, who is addicted to smoking, used to bring home packets of cigarettes from work and hide them from us. As a curious child, I wanted to know what was inside those packets and what would happen if we inhaled them. So, one day, I decided to secretly take one of the packets and experiment. I attempted to burn the cigarettes to inhale them, but my younger brother caught me in the act. To my surprise, I ended up giving him one to try as well, fearing he might tell our parents. However, that experience left me in severe stomach pain, and I never touched a cigarette again after that day.
The Trap of Addiction: A Story of Friendship and Smoking
Let me share a story about one of my buddies who got hooked on smoking. When I got into university, I formed a tight-knit group of four friends, and we've been inseparable ever since. At the time, only one of us was a smoker, and he was deeply addicted. He confided in us that he'd been smoking for 3 to 4 years and was finding it incredibly tough to quit, though he was making efforts.
I used to tease him jokingly, saying he looked quite suave while puffing on his smokes. Truth be told, I was tempted to try smoking myself, just for the thrill of it, but I absolutely despise the smell of cigarettes.

As we were all living separately, we decided to rent a flat and move in together starting from the second semester. Initially, one of my friends hesitated because he was worried about our smoking buddy lighting up indoors, fearing his parents' wrath if they caught wind of it. However, we managed to convince our friend not to smoke inside the flat.
From Hobby to Habit: The Downward Spiral of Smoking
We moved in together at the beginning of the second semester, but unfortunately, COVID hit just a week later, as you all know. When we finally returned for the fourth semester after the COVID break, we noticed some changes. Our friend who used to smoke heavily in the first semester had significantly cut down on his smoking. However, another friend, who initially wasn't keen on living with a smoker, had started smoking daily.

I repeatedly advised him against it, but he insisted that I was only casually inhaling it and not actually addicted. However, within a few days, he was finishing entire cigarettes himself. Despite this, he maintained that it was just a hobby and he wasn't hooked. He was simply trying to impress our other friends with his smoking skills. But, to my dismay, he eventually started buying whole packets himself.
Results of Smoking
The essence of this story is a cautionary one: if you're not a smoker, don't even try it. It's one of the deadliest addictions, slowly deteriorating your health from within. When he first arrived, he looked healthy, but now his appearance resembles that of a cancer patient depicted on cigarette packs. He's also begun experiencing heart issues, requiring regular doctor visits for check-ups. Initially, he used to claim that quitting was easy whenever he wanted, but now he's struggling to break free from it.
Therefore, it's crucial to steer clear of this addiction. We only get one life, so it's important not to waste it in such a harmful manner. Think about the impact on future generations and strive to lead a fulfilling life. I understand that many people may start smoking due to stress or worries, but believe me, those fears are temporary, and you can overcome them with perseverance.
