Ethereum deploys Dencun upgrade on testnet
The Ethereum network has taken a major step forward with the deployment of the Dencun upgrade on the Goerli testnet. This marks an important step in preparations for the expected launch on the mainnet.
The Dencun upgrade was deployed on the Goerli testnet at around 1:35 a.m. ET, according to an announcement from the developers. The central feature of this Dencun implementation is the introduction of EIP-4844, also known as proto-danksharding. This opens up a new transaction mechanism for Ethereum, allowing temporary storage and access of off-chain data using Ethereum nodes to reduce storage needs. This is expected to significantly reduce transaction costs for Ethereum dApps, especially benefiting layer 2 rollup chains.
To prepare for this transition, the development team chose a phased approach, initially performing the upgrade on different test networks. Once deployed on Goerli, the next steps include activating Dencun on the Sepolia testnet on January 31, followed by the Holesky testnet on February 7. Final mainnet release is expected by the end of the first quarter of 2024.
The Dencun upgrade promises to bring significant improvements to the Ethereum ecosystem and user community. Reducing transaction costs will further facilitate the development and use of decentralized applications on the platform. This is an important step in capturing the potential of blockchain technology and building a sustainable development ecosystem.
With the successful implementation on the Goerli testnet, the Ethereum community is looking forward to further improvements and the official launch on the mainnet. Core developers have clear plans and step-by-step implementation strategies to ensure stability and efficiency for this transition. If you are interested in Ethereum and the latest innovations, stay tuned for information from the Ethereum Foundation and the Ethereum community.
Let's wait for new developments and great applications to be built on this blockchain platform in the near future. Let's wait and support the development of Ethereum, one of the world's leading blockchain platforms, and hope that the Dencun upgrade will bring positive improvements to the entire user community.
