Why GPT-3 Is Sufficient and you can thrive without GPT-4

Most of us are well aware of GPT’s capabilities and it’s well outputted results based on code, journalism, general info, math etc. As of release of GPT-4 in March 14 2023 a lot of people joined the band wagon of acquiring it.

Chat GPT-4 is available for use to those who have subscribed to ChatGPT Plus for $20/month.

As a developer, blogger I have used GPT-3 more frequently on the day of it’s announcement as most of us had. Leading up to today I try to avoid it’s extensive usage here are the reasons.

  1. Dependency: Overreliance on AI tools can lead to a dependency that hampers our own critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  2. Ethical Concerns: Overreliance on AI tools without critical assessment can lead to the propagation of biases or misinformation.
  3. Limitations and Errors: Blindly relying on AI outputs without independent verification or critical evaluation can lead to errors or flawed decision-making.
  4. Lack of Creativity: AI tools excel at pattern recognition and generating responses based on existing data.

The opposite is as well true of overusing it you may have the solutions to your coding task, project, idea.
But in my own case joy for development started to diminish same about having any critical thinking behind the issue I was facing.
People around my circle and at work where highly suggesting using GPT4 but honestly why do I need it? If I manage my work with GPT3 and actually get things working why do I need new shiny version even if GPT4 is 10x better based on data that it is trained at.
I don’t want to give full power to AI even if it is 10x better it kills the joy out of solving issues yourself. A lot I think as well depends how good of a developer are you or in your own craft.
I know few seniors who don’t use GPT at all and have high respect for that but as a junior can’t blame of abusing this AI tool that is now available for all of us.

Concluding

All in all for now I see no reason to use GPT4 the free version is plenty helpful and gives quite good recourses based on my needs. The future may paint a different story but so far I am happy with the tools that I have in my disposal. In general AI should be seen as a tool that augments human intelligence and provides valuable insights, but it should not replace our ability to think critically, exercise judgment, and apply our own expertise.
