WHAT IS JTD MULTIJET ENGINE?
JTD (Multijet) is a diesel engine technology developed by Fiat.
It stands out as the first-generation diesel engine of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles equipped with the Common Rail direct fuel injection system. This technology was developed to make fuel injection more efficient and provide higher performance. Known as Multijet engines, JTD engines ensure more complete combustion of diesel fuel, offering both fuel efficiency and operating with lower noise and vibration.
This sequentially turbocharged engine with direct fuel injection was initially introduced in the Alfa Romeo 156 sedan model in 1997. Later, it was used in other models of Alfa Romeo, as well as added to Fiat and Lancia brand vehicles. The second and third generations of JTD engines are referred to as Multijet and Multijet II. TD Multijet is a diesel engine type developed by Fiat. The abbreviation "JTD" stands for "Jet Turbo Diesel." The term "Multijet" indicates that this engine has a multiple injection system. Multijet, with its multiple injection system, provides higher performance, lower emissions, and better fuel economy compared to previous generations. This system allows multiple injections to be made to each cylinder, ensuring more effective fuel distribution and better combustion.
JTD Multijet engines have been used in models of Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and some other brands.
These engines are often preferred in compact and mid-size cars, attracting attention with their powerful performance. However, technical details may vary from model to model, so it is important to consult manufacturer sources for more information about a specific vehicle or model.
JTD Engine (Multijet) Features There are several features that distinguish JTD engines from the previous generation common rail diesel engines. One of the most important of these is the more complete and quieter combustion of the fuel allocated to multiple injections in the cylinder.
