Federal Govt: Families of NSCDC officers killed receive automatic employment
The families of the seven servicemen who were ambushed by bandits in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, have received condolences from the commandant general of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ahmed Audi.
During a condolence visit on Thursday, the CG spoke to grieving families at the NSCDC Kaduna Command Headquarters. He noted that the corps had lost officers in the line of duty in the past, but not as many as in the terrible Birnin-Gwari tragedy.
Later, as a sign of solidarity until their earned benefits were paid, he gave checks for undisclosed sums of money to the relatives of the seven slain heroes. In addition, he said that each family would be given a job spot as a replacement for the killed cops.
This was said in a statement released on Thursday and signed by Olusola Odumosu, the Corps' spokesperson.
The PUNCH reported that on January 9, 2023, an attack at a Kuriga mining location in Kaduna state resulted in the deaths of seven NSCDC officials. It was said that the same tragedy also claimed the lives of five additional security personnel working for a related organization.
However, Audi, who called the murder "colossal," urged other staff members not to be put off by the unpleasant event.
The CG said, “Death is inevitable; it is heartbreaking to lose personnel.
“Although this is not the first time we are losing personnel, it’s so painful that we’ve lost seven personnel at a time. It is a great loss, and that is why I am here personally, to encourage all of you to continue to do your best and not give up.”
In order to lessen the suffering of those they left behind, the Corps helmsman intimated that he had started the process of paying death benefits and other entitlements to the impacted officers through the office of the Minister of Interior.
He clarified that the Corps has been paying personnel their due entitlements, group life insurance plans, accident compensation, and burial benefits.
He claimed that the backlog of pay and arrears had been cleared when he took over as CG roughly two years ago, with only a few remaining that would shortly be resolved.
