Bella Thorne
Annabella Avery Thorne, born on October 8, 1997, is an American actress, singer, and writer. She initially gained recognition for her roles as Margaux Darling in the series Dirty Sexy Money (2007–2008) and as Ruthy Spivey in the drama series My Own Worst Enemy (2009), the latter of which earned her a Young Artist Award.
Thorne rose to prominence for her portrayal of CeCe Jones on the Disney Channel series Shake It Up (2010–2013), for which she received several awards and nominations, including an Imagen Award. She has since appeared in numerous feature films, such as Blended (2014), Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip (2015), and The Babysitter film series (2017–2020).
Her performances in The DUFF (2015), Amityville: The Awakening (2017), and Infamous (2020) garnered praise. Thorne also starred in the drama series Famous in Love (2017–2018), receiving nominations from the Teen Choice Awards.
Beyond acting, Thorne has ventured into music, releasing her debut single "Watch Me" in 2011, which peaked at 86 on the US Billboard Hot 100. She has since released the EPs Made in Japan in 2012 and Jersey in 2014. In 2019, Thorne made her directorial debut with the adult film Her & Him, which received positive reviews and won a Pornhub Visionary Award.
Annabella Avery Thorne was born in Pembroke Pines, Florida, on October 8, 1997, to Tamara Thorne and Delancey Reinaldo "Rey" Thorne. She has three siblings, all of whom are also actors. Thorne's father was of Cuban descent but tragically passed away in a traffic accident in April 2007. Thorne has spoken openly about her upbringing, stating that she was raised by a single mother who struggled financially to support her four children. She began working as a child actress to help provide for her family.
Thorne revealed in September 2017 that she grew up in a suburban area, where Spanish was her first language, and that she faced bullying due to being dyslexic. She was diagnosed with dyslexia in first grade and experienced difficulties in public school, leading her to be homeschooled. Her learning improved after attending a Sylvan Learning center, allowing her to read and write at a grade level ahead of her peers. By April 2010, she claimed to have overcome dyslexia through intensive reading, even including cereal box labels.
In January 2018, Thorne bravely shared on Instagram that she had been physically and sexually abused as a child, enduring abuse from "the day I can remember till I was 14." In a 2019 interview with ABC News' Juju Chang, she disclosed that the abuse began when she was six years old, perpetrated by "someone I was raised with," though she did not name her abuser.
In 2010, Thorne took on the role of Tancy "Teenie" Henrickson in Season 4 of HBO's Big Love, replacing Jolean Wejbe. She also co-starred on the Disney Channel sitcom Shake It Up, where she portrayed CeCe Jones, a dancer with dreams of making it big despite her dyslexia. The show, originally titled Dance, Dance Chicago, revolves around a teen dance show and follows the comedic adventures of Thorne's character and her friend, played by Zendaya.
Despite her lack of professional dancing experience, Thorne dedicated herself to the role, taking three dance classes every night after signing onto the show in October 2009. Her dedication paid off when the show premiered on November 7, 2010, garnering success on the Disney Channel.
In 2012, Thorne expanded her repertoire by portraying Avalon Greene in the Disney Channel Original Movie Frenemies. She also ventured into music, releasing her debut single "Watch Me" on June 21, 2011, which achieved moderate success on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts. Thorne's musical endeavors continued with the release of "TTYLXOX" on March 6, 2012.
Thorne's involvement with Shake It Up came to an end in July 2013 when Disney Channel confirmed the cancellation of the show after its third season. However, she continued to pursue her music career, signing with Hollywood Records and announcing her debut album with eleven songs. Additionally, Thorne ventured into writing, signing a deal to pen a series of books, with her first novel, Autumn Falls, marking her debut as an author. Throughout her career, Thorne has drawn inspiration from artists like Britney Spears, Kesha, and Destiny's Child, aiming to create music that defies genre categorization.
In 2014, Thorne expanded her filmography by co-starring in various movies, including the comedy Blended, where she portrayed the daughter of Adam Sandler's character. She also appeared in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and The DUFF, showcasing her versatility by playing high school antagonists. Additionally, she guest-starred in an episode of the fifteenth season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation titled "The Book of Shadows", which aired in October 2014.
Thorne continued her involvement in the entertainment industry with roles in Mostly Ghostly: Have You Met My Ghoulfriend and the MTV series Scream in 2014. Despite her initial plans for a debut album, Thorne announced the cancellation of the project in October 2014, expressing dissatisfaction with the music she had been working on. Instead, she released an EP titled Jersey in November, featuring the lead single "Call It Whatever", which achieved success on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
In 2015, Thorne's career continued to thrive with roles in various projects. She lent her voice to the animated film The Frog Kingdom and starred in the AwesomenessTV film Shovel Buddies. Thorne also appeared in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip and played a role in the horror film Keep Watching.
Thorne's momentum carried into 2016 with her portrayal of Rain in Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween. She returned to television in 2017 with the drama series Famous in Love, where she played the lead role of Paige Townsen. Additionally, she joined the cast of the black comedy film Assassination Nation and starred in the Netflix original film You Get Me. Thorne also made a musical contribution by appearing on Prince Fox's single "Just Call".
In October 2017, Thorne appeared in the slasher comedy The Babysitter, directed by McG and released on Netflix, reprising her role in the sequel The Babysitter: Killer Queen.
