Story Of Farmer
There was a farmer and his beautiful daughter in a village.
The farmer had to take debts from a moneylender and was not able to pay it back.
One day, the cruel moneylender showed up at the farmer's house and said, “Give me the money or I will go to the court". The poor farmer said, “I don't have any money. I can give you anything else except money.”
The moneylender smiled raising his brows and said, “Then marry your daughter to me.”
The farmer and his daughter were shocked.
“I.. I can't do that..”, said the farmer.
The moneylender said, “Alright, I will pick up a white and a black pebble from this path and put them in a bag. Your daughter will take out one of the pebbles. If it is black, she'll marry me, and if it's white, I forget your loans and your daughter.”
The farmer, left with no choice, agreed.
When the moneylender was picking the pebbles, the sharp-sighted farmer's daughter saw that the moneylender had picked up two black pebbles and put them in the bag. She said nothing.
When the daughter put her hand in the bag, she pulled out a pebble without letting it being seen and dropped it. It was lost in the pebble-strewn path. She pretended, “Oh! how clumsy of me!”.
Then she said something that shocked the moneylender: “Leave it. You will be able to confirm which pebble I took out of the bag if you see which one is left in there.”
The moneylender was dumbstruck and hesitantly pulled out the remaining one pebble. Ofcourse, it was black.
