Splinterlands | Rent

No matter how many packs you buy, there will always be cards that you don’t use. It just does not fit your game plan. So, what do you do? You either sell that card, or you rent it out. While the former is a one-time solution, the latter is what I like.

The renting out option is a good one because of two reasons. One, you get to keep the card, and two, if you fall in love with the card you are renting out, you can stop renting out and play with it. The latter happened to me, and so I know.

Anyway, let’s look at renting out cards. Shall we? But before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, that’s where you will find all these fun battles, abilities, rules, and monsters.

What Game is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. ***The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning.*** By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.

To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.

Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs

And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. In fact, there is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too. And now the sales of the Rebellion packs, the newest of the lot, have also started.

Renting Cards | A Good Idea

The idea of renting out cards is good because you earn from your unused assets and, at the same time, make the cards available to players who don’t have them. This is a novel way of keeping the Splinterlands economy vibrant and working.

In addition to all this, we create a marketplace for non-players to have a look and get started at a much cheaper cost. This would truly encourage the players on the fence to participate in the Splinterlands world. And that’s one of the things that we, as users, would want. Who can say no to more players?

More, the merrier!

Navigating to the Renting Tab | On To Business

On the game home screen, Click on “Items” on the top left side of the screen. A drop-down will appear, and on that, click on “cards.” Once you do that, all the cards that we have will be displayed.

Now, on that page, there will be drop down for cards as shown below:

When we click on the drop-down, click on the “can be rented” option. The page will display all the cards available for rent. From here, you can choose what to rent out.

However, I have a different way of looking at renting out.

A Different Logic to Renting

I choose to rent out gold cards usually as they get us more rent. But I also choose only those gold cards that have an equivalent non-gold card.

Take a look below:

Now you notice that both of the cards are level 3, and so, even if I rent out the gold card, I will still have an equivalent non-gold card of the same level to play. So, that’s an easy choice.

How To Rent Out?

Now that you have decided to rent out the Kobold Bruiser, click on the gold card. Once we click, we will see the following screen.

Here, we see all the details of the card, its level, etc. On the right-hand side top, we see tabs like “For Sale,” “For Rent”, etc. Click on the “Rent” tab.

Now, this page shows all the Kobold Bruisers already rented out by other players. You can check the cost here based on the level of our card. Since my card is level 3 and we see the cards of the same level rented out for 1 DEC, we more or less have to rent at the same cost, if not lower. That’s the only way to have our cards rented.

**Note:** 1 DEC is the minimum we can place the rent value. We can not rent for less than 1 DEC.

Rent Amount Decision Made | Now We Rent Out

After we decided on the rent value, we clicked on the “cards” tab on the top left and clicked on renting (house-like button). The above popup comes up. Make sure you click on “RENT CARD” and not “SELL CARD”.

Over here, put the rental price as one and hit the green rent button on the bottom right. That’s it.

As confirmation, the house icon lights up under the “Status” tab. This we can see in the above snapshot. Now, our card has been rented out for a value of 1 DEC per day.

And That’s How We Rent Out | Easy, Isn’t It?

So renting out our unused cards is as simple as shown. You can utilize your unused assets and earn from them and, at the same time, enable smaller and newer players to use those cards.

It is a win-win, and I think all players should rent out cards. This will work well for the Splinterlands’ economy.

Namaste!
