What Benidorm was really like

Good morning/evening

As some of you may recall from my post Bitcoin hits 100K now I have to go away, my husband and I were asked to go on a surprise birthday trip for my mum to Benidorm, we said well OK if BTC goes to 100K we will do it, and yes it did hit the 100K so we stuck to our word and booked the trip.

You may also recall that Benidorm was not our destination of choice, don't get me wrong, I would love to go to Spain but my choice would be somewhere less touristy and more, well Spanish, where I could eat tapas and paella and drink Spanish wine whilst watching a beautiful sunset and chatting to my husband. (Yep 20 years in August and we still have a lot to talk about!)

As there are going to be 12 family members (that all like the pretty much the same things, we will try to go with the flow as much as we can) take for instance the champagne boat trip, I would love that and would happily book it for everyone, but I know they would hate that. I have always been, well let's say different, but then most of my family think I am crazy anyway and not just because of crypto, (that's the icing on the cake! moving to a new, less developed country 15 years ago with a baby and a completely different way of life was the first of many decisions where my family thought I had lost my mind.

So what was Benidorm really like.and what things are there to do in Benidorm, well here we go.

OK I was pleasantly surprised, the beach and the promenade looked really clean in the daytime, all I can say is the street cleaners must be out early to clean up the piles of vomit that you need to dodge in the evening. Although I was dreading the hoards of drunken English people they were quite friendly and we did have some fun. There was only one instance of drunken violence I saw while I was there but I was not in the party scene and was going to bed as most were on their way out!

There were many tribute bands on every night, comedians and hypnotists and even bingo and sports on TV so if that is your type of thing you will have a lot of choice!
The nightlife in Benidorm

This was not the strangest thing we saw surprisingly enough!

As you can see it is quite built up and the hotel we stayed in was quite near the seafront, but it was one of those 'cram as many in as you can hotels' with a really poor dining room (you can't call it a restaurant) and equally poor food which was neither hot or cold but warm which may explain why 6 of the people in our party had food poisoning! The Spanish pharmacys were excellent though and gave everyone that needed it medication that helped.

Food in Benidorm
There were a lot of restaurants that catered for the British, in fact I saw more fish and chip shops than I see in the UK, also you could get an 'English breakfast' almost every 200 metres. Luckily we did find some nice restaurants and had some lovely food whilst wandering around including the odd glass of wine or 2.

We did have a good time, the weather was great while we were there and we walked for miles everyday. It was nice to take a break (we did take the work laptop but did not use it!) We did also look on a 'places that take Bitcoin map' and found one Italian restaurant but did not get to eat there. Yes I know Bitcoin is a store of value but I still think it would be sort of cool to actually use it to buy something without converting to fiat first, or just using the lightning network and scan a QR code.

So to sum it up, it was great to see so many family members and my mum had a great Birthday and Benidorm was not as bad as I expected it to be, it is not somewhere I would go back too but we had a good time and a nice break, touched grass and have come back to a red market! Oh well.

As always thank you for reading and please feel free to comment.
