Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves
Once upon a time. Once upon a time, two brothers named Ali Baba and Kasım lived in one of the country. These were children from poor families. As fate would have it, Kasım married a very rich woman who was very wealthy. Ali Baba's luck was not good.
– “A poor person suits a poor person!” So he married a poor woman.
Time comes, time goes... Then, he had three donkeys. Ali Baba would gather them in front of him and make wood in the forest. Then he would pile the wood in a corner, load it on his donkeys, bring it to the city and sell it there.
As you can see, they were living hand to mouth with money for wood.
At the end of another day when he was making wood like this, he saw many horsemen coming towards him from afar.
– “Does the poor man on the mountain have anyone else to call and ask other than the bandits? “I must hide to one side immediately.” So he released his donkeys, climbed onto a tree and hid.
The horsemen stopped right under the tree where he was hiding. Ali Baba did not hesitate and counted the men. He learned that there were forty of them. These men, whom he thought were bandits, were thieves. Ali Baba was frightened and clung to the branch of the tree he was lying on, but did not move
Those who came put their bags on their horses' saddles and walked after their leaders, whom they considered to be leaders. They had difficulty carrying their bags because they were heavy.
When the leader of these thieves went to the huge rock opposite, he did not wait and called out:
- "Open sesame, open!" said.
What is this? Shouldn't the huge rock split in the middle and split into two? The thieves entered through this door, one by one, with the bags on their backs. When the last thief entered, the rock closed on its own.
Ali Baba was confused and thought about getting down from the tree and running away and adding a few of the thieves' horses to his donkeys, but he gave up. Because those who left their horses there could almost come back. Ali Baba remained where he was. Shortly after, the men appeared in front of the rock. The guy behind, who will be their head, said this time:
- "Shut up, sesame, shut up!"
The big rock obeyed orders and immediately closed down. They didn't wait at all, they got on their horses, which they left under the tree, and left.
Will Ali Baba stay there anymore? He immediately came down from the tree. Knowing that he was alone there, he went straight to the big rock across the street. He said the first of the words he kept in his mind.
– “Open sesame, open!”
Oh my God, won't the door of the huge rock suddenly open? When Ali Baba saw the very bright and wide entrance, he almost swallowed his tongue in surprise. Inside, heaps of gold, silver, diamonds, silk fabrics and chests full of money are lined up in order. Ali Baba looked left and right, filled three sacks he saw in the corner with gold and went out at lightning speed. He forgot his wood, loaded the full sacks onto his donkeys and set out for the city. When he came home, he carried the sacks he unloaded to his wife's room.
His wife could not believe her eyes and thought Ali Baba was stealing. Ali Baba explained to his wife in brief words what happened. His wife was happy and they started unloading the sacks one by one. His wife's greed flared up and she wanted to count all the gold coins.
Ali Dad;
- "No!" said. “Let's dig a hole and bury it!”
What is possible? His wife wanted to know the number of gold coins.
To her husband:
– “If you want, go out and dig a hole. I'll go and get a measure from the neighbor. Approximately how much money we have, at least we can find out, right? said.
Ali Baba warned her:
– “Wife, do not spread your mouth here and there! This is a secret job. "No one should hear this except the two of us."
His wife:
– “He won't hear!” She convinced her husband and went to her sister-in-law Kasim's house.
She asked for a measure from her sister-in-law whom she saw in the courtyard.
Kasim's wife asked:
– “Scale? Which one do you want? “The big one or the little one?”
– “The smaller one will do the job for me.”
Kasım's wife knew that her son-in-law was poor. Wondering what his sister-in-law would measure, he put a layer of dark honey under the scale.
When Ali Baba's wife returned home, she started measuring the gold. Her husband took what she measured and set aside and buried it in the hole he dug.
His wife was very happy with the result. When he was finished, he did not wait for the scale he received and gave it back immediately. However, he did not look up and down the scale. Kasım's wife was astonished when she saw the horseshoe-like gold stuck to the bottom of the scale.
– “Ali Baba has so much gold, huh!.. Where did he get it from?..” he started to think. The more he thought about it, the more he almost lost his mind.
It's evening. Her husband welcomed Kasım at the door with great excitement. She immediately scolded the guy.
– “Let me marvel at your wealth. If you were to compete among yourself in wealth, Ali Baba would give you zero. Do you know, while you sit at the stove and count your gold coins one by one, Ali Baba measures them by setting.”
Kasım was left standing there, surprised by this rebuke he never expected. His wife pulled him by the arm, took him inside and told him what had happened. Kasım, who was no less greedy than his wife, was jealous of Ali Baba. He couldn't sleep all night. As soon as the morning dawned, he got up early and went to his brother Ali Baba's house. He became sullen and scolded his brother for the reaction he received from his own wife.
– “Ali Baba!”, he said, “When you were poor? Why did you hide your pots of gold from us?
– “So that's it, huh? “Where is this gold?”
– “You are pretending not to understand now, aren't you? “How many more gold coins are there like a horseshoe that sticks to the bottom of the scale we gave you?”
Ali Dad;
- "No!" said. “Let's dig a hole and bury it!”
What is possible? His wife wanted to know the number of gold coins.

Ali Baba gave him half of the gold they buried in the ground so that what he heard from his brother would not be revealed to others, and strictly warned him not to tell anyone else.
Kasım made a fuss:
- “I too must see the location of this treasure. If you don't take it and show it, I will take you to court."
Ali Baba, who did not think there was any harm in this;
– “We will set out tomorrow morning. “I will take you there.” He said and sent his brother home.
In the morning, Kasım went to the forest with his mules in front of him without waiting for Ali Baba. When he came to the big rock, he repeated the words he learned from Ali Baba:
– “Open sesame, open!” said.
Having received the order, the door was opened immediately. Kasım's eyes were dazzled as he rushed in. He saw the treasure crammed full of treasure. He filled all the sacks he brought with him. After filling the last sack, he headed towards the exit door. But shouldn't the worst and most unexpected thing happen to you? Kasım could not remember the magic words that would open the door. Whatever he said is impossible, the door was not opened. He died because of his fear and came back to life. He was in trouble for his life and looked for a place to escape. But he couldn't find any other holes or traces.
At noon, the thieves came to their cave. They saw Kasım's mules and became suspicious. They realized that their treasure was known and found. At first they couldn't find the courage to go inside. The thought that the number of people inside might be higher frightened them. They argued among themselves. Tired of these discussions, the chief robber drew his sword and went to face the huge rock. Thinking just in case, he hid to the side and called out:
– “Open sesame, open!”
Having received the order, the door was opened immediately.
On this side, Kasım understood that he was living the last seconds of his life. He thought of a solution for salvation. As soon as the door opened, he would quickly run out and escape from those who came.
He did what he thought, but the thieves blocked his way and plunged their swords into his belly. The brave ones entered through the opening. They loaded the sacks that Kasım had filled and carried in front of the door, and emptied them at their place.
This mistake of Kasım saved Ali Baba from being a target.
The thieves gathered, talked, and investigated where the entrance was entered. But they found neither a trace nor a hole. They divided Kasım's body into four, left two parts on one side of the door, and the other two parts on the other side.
The number of evenings is not included in the number of evenings... Evening has come again, and shadows have descended on the Kasımlar's courtyard.
Kasim's wife went and told Ali Baba that her husband had not arrived by this time. Ali Baba understood the situation. She consoled her aunt by claiming that she would come after dark with her brother's mules loaded with gold.
But it was midnight, and just as the first rooster was about to crow, the second rooster also crowed. There is no news from Kasım. Her aunt, alarmed, came to Ali Baba again.
Ali Dad;
– “Dark nights have a morning! "That's all, don't worry." He tried to give him hope.
Despite this, he did not think that a disaster had happened to his brother, but he did not show his sadness. Before it was morning, he thought there would be moonlight anyway, took his three donkeys and went to the forest early as usual to make firewood. When he went towards the rock, he saw his brother's mules. He moved forward and noticed blood stains leaving traces on the ground.
He saw what happened to his brother in front of the big rock. He looked for a place to hide from his fear, then gathered himself together. He thought about digging a grave and burying his brother there.
He said to himself;
– “This is wrong!” said. “Leaving my brother here would reveal everything. Now is not the time to stop. I have to pick up his pieces.”
He did so. He collected his brother's pieces and put them in sacks. He loaded it on the back of one of the donkeys. He said time is money and hurried. He returned to the city after loading gold into the other empty sacks.
His wife and his aunt were sitting alone and crying. As soon as Kasım's wife saw her husband's dead body in a sack, she felt ill and felt like fainting. Ali Baha's wife woke him up. Ali Baba took the loaded donkey in front of him and went to his brother's house. The doorbell rang. The coral girl went to the door without waiting.
Ali Dad;
- “Mercan,” he said, “You will not tell anyone what you saw tonight. Do you understand?"
– “I understand, sir!”
– “This is the master's dead body. They tore him to pieces on the mountain. We must keep this secret from everyone. Can I trust you?"
– “Of course sir!”
Ali Baba unloaded his load and took him inside with Mercan.
Mercan never stopped and started to do her job. First he ran to the herbalist and asked for medicine for his serious illness.
Can the herbalist stand by while preparing the medicine without asking? He asked between his eyes:
- "Who is seriously ill?"
– “Sir Kasım. Moreover, he cannot speak.”
He immediately took his medicine and left so that he wouldn't have to chatter and linger there.
It was morning and he came to the same herbalist again. He asked for the medicine that is made to be smelled by patients who are about to take their last breath.
The herbalist asked again:
"Didn't your master get better?"
– “No, he didn't get better. "He can't make it through tonight."
Those who saw Ali Baba and his wife entering and leaving Kasım's house all day heard the news of Kasım's death in the evening.
Mercan went out early the next morning. He entered one of the first tailor shops to open. He threw a gold lira on the ground saying good luck, this is the custom. He said it wasn't enough for him and left a gold lira next to him.
– “Good job, uncle! “Can you come with me to measure the shroud?”
– “Of course I will come, that's my job!”
– “Then take your equipment and come immediately…”
– “Fall in front of me and show the way.”
– “Okay, but I need to blindfold you.”
- "Why?"
– “So that you don't know where we are going.”
– “Even if you give me a thousand gold coins, I cannot accept it.”
Mercan thought we were done, and gave another gold coin to the little guy's hand:
- “Don't be afraid! I would never make you do anything inappropriate. Let's go!"
The blindfolded tailor followed Mercan. The tailor's blindfold was removed at the door of the house. They entered Kasım's room.
The tailor was startled. Frightened. Mercan showed him what to do; He said that he would give him another gold in return for sewing these four pieces.
As soon as the tailor finished his work, Mercan took him to the street behind Kasım's house and left him. The tailor got lost at the end of the street.
Kasım's funeral was shrouded, the hodjas were notified and sala was given. Does he have a lot of lovers or what? The one who heard has come, the one who runs has caught up. The funeral ceremony was very crowded.
After this death, Ali Baba and his wife settled in Kasım's house. They enlarged his shop and left its management to Ali Baba's son.
Let's talk about the thieves on the big rock. As soon as they returned to their cave, they suspected two things. Not only was Kasım's body nowhere to be seen, but there was also a decrease in the gold in his treasury.
The head of the harami who gathers his men around him;
– “We must find the person who took that body away from here. He knows all our secrets. We must set out quickly, search for him everywhere, and hold him to account. Otherwise, it would be difficult for all of us to live.” said.
The thieves found his thought correct. A volunteer took the road at night and went to the city. Well, that day, the tailor's shop was open again in the market square. Harami, to the tailor;
– “How early are you? It's still twilight. How can you see in this darkness? he asked.
– “I trust my eyes. "The other day, I even stood up a dead body in even more darkness."
– “The dead? Can your ears hear what you say? "Isn't it wrong?"
- "No! I know what I'm saying. But enough chatter. Yes, go to work. "Let me mind my business."
Harami, with the enthusiasm of finding what he was looking for, took out a gold coin from his purse and handed it to the tailor:
- “Take this. Just show me which house it is.” said.
– “I was blindfolded, I don't know.”
– “Let's blindfold him again and hit the road. Whichever direction you went, let's go in that direction. As much as you have walked, walk again and stop. Look, was this the place you saw? Tell me that."
- "I can't do it!"
Harami has caught his prey... Will he let it go? He left a few more gold coins on the tailor's counter.
The tailor blindfolded himself and set out with his haram. They walked for a long time, with him in front and the harami behind. They went a little and went a long way.
Soon the tailor;
- "Ok! Let's stop here. "This is where they took off my blindfold." said. He showed Kasım's house.
After sending the tailor away, Harami drew the door of that house with red paint. At this very moment, Mercan, who returns from the shop with breakfast, doesn't she see what the harami is doing?
He returned, took red paint and a brush, and made the same sign on the doors of all the houses in the neighborhood.
At dusk, all the thieves descended on the city, two by two. They found the neighborhood, but were surprised when they saw the red sign on all the doors in a row. They went back to their cave. They sent another volunteer to the city at night. So he found the tailor and blindfolded him. After walking for a while, he marked the door where he was standing.
You see, Mercan always had her eye on the signs to be knocked on the door. As soon as he saw a newly drawn sign, he immediately marked all the other doors. The third of the thieves turned out to be smart. He kept in mind the door the tailor was standing in front of. He called the head of the thieves waiting outside the city and showed him Kasim's house.
They didn't wait, they returned to the cave. The chief harami had supposedly forty mules' loads of olive oil prepared there to sell in the city market. He placed his haramis in each of the overalls. He and his man came to the city at dusk. They saw Ali Baba sitting in front of his door.
The chief harami approached him and asked:
- “I brought olive oil to sell in the market. But as you can see, we are late. If I don't bother you, will you host me at your house tonight?
Ali Baba:
– “Oh, oh! You have a place above my head. Here you go!” He said and called Mercan. He told him to set a table for his guest.
The skins were carried into the courtyard, one by two. When the chief harami was informed that the table was ready, he called out to his men in a whisper just as he was entering.
"When I inform you, you can tear the overalls with your daggers and get out of them immediately," he said. He came in and sat at the table.
In the kitchen, Mercan dug into the coals of the barbecue and made room for the coffee pot, but her oil lamp dimmed its light and then went out. Mercan filled a small bottle with olive oil from one of the skins and went out to the courtyard to light the lamp. As soon as he approached the first tuluk, the voice of the haram inside was heard.
– “Shall we go out?”
- "No no!"
Mercan ran from one bag to another. Whoever he went to, he was faced with the same question. But only the last bag contained olive oil. Mercan picked him up and carried him to the kitchen. He put enough olive oil in his lamp. He boiled the rest thoroughly in a huge cauldron. He poured the boiling olive oil into the openings of all the skins. He killed all the thieves. He cowered in a corner of the courtyard and wanted to know what the harami leader would do.
He didn't wait long, and soon the head of the harami threw the small pebbles he had prepared in advance onto the bags.
None of them have the sound he expects.
He turned and asked one by one;
- "Are you sleeping?" said.
Again no sound. Moreover, the smell of hot olive oil and boiled people came from the skins. Realizing that the shoe was expensive, the head of the harami did not stop and fled towards his cave.
When the people in the house woke up, Mercan called Ali Baba to a corner and told him what had happened. They buried the thieves in a large hole they dug in the courtyard.
The head of the thieves was angry at his misfortune, became enraged after what had happened to him, and swore revenge. He changed clothes and went back to the city. He kept the huge shop right across from Ali Baba's son's shop for himself. She has filled her shelves with stunning Indian fabrics. He took the name Koca Hüseyin. Later, he became friends with Ali Baba's son. He invited him to his table and gave him feasts. Ali Baba's son will not be overwhelmed by these feasts, right? He also told his father that he wanted to invite Koca Hüseyin to dinner.
Ali Dad;
– “Look, this is good!” said. “In this small world, it is fitting to be among friends. Invite him to be our guest tomorrow night.”
The next evening the tables were set. Big Hüseyin, Ali Baba and his son met at the same table. Ali Baba showed respect to his guest. Even though he was going to leave early, he dissuaded him from this wish.
Big Hüseyin -supposedly- could not stand Ali Baba's insistence and stayed there.
Later that night, Mercan came to the guest room to ask if they had any wishes. Mercan understood at first glance that his guests were the robbers, and saw that he was hiding a dagger under his dress.
He weighed things up for himself and came to a conclusion:
– “I understand, this means killing my master? “I must act quickly and measure his height.” ' he said to himself.
Mercan went to the kitchen and returned with bottles of wine.
Big Hussein;
– “Here is the opportunity, right in my hand. Now father and son both leak. "Then I'll finish your work." he thought.
They drank and drank...
Mercan is dressed like a belly dancer. He hid a dagger in his belt. He entered with two servants who played saz:
The saz played, Mercan played.
The saz played and Mercan played.
Mercan played and saz played.
Mercan played and saz played.
Big Hüseyin was up and down; He became sadder and sadder that time was passing by, and he applauded Mercan, even if it was fake. Mercan was dancing really well. It went from number to number. He waved the dagger he took out of his belt, as if it were part of the game. Then he took a tambourine in his hand. He held this tambourine in front of Ali Baba. Ali Baba took it out and gave him a gold coin. His son also behaved like his father. He also took out a piece of gold and gave it to him. Mercan said it was a game and came to Koca Hüseyin. Big Hüseyin put his hand into his bosom to take out his purse. At this moment, Mercan got angry, drew his dagger and stabbed Koca Hüseyin in the heart.
Ali Baba grabbed Mercan by the wrist.
– “Are you crazy, Mercan? What have you done?" he asked.
Mercan replied:
– “That's why I acted quickly. "I acted early and did to him what the thieves leader would do to you."
As soon as he said this, he took out the snake-tongued knife that he kept in Big Hüseyin's bosom and showed it to them.
Ali Baba kissed this brave girl on the forehead:
- “Mercan, I owe my life to you. I can't pay for this even if I pay forty mules of gold. “Will you be my bride?” he said, he didn't wait and turned to his son;
– “Son, okay?” he asked.
Does this son ever obey his father's words? He agreed to marry Mercan. They didn't wait, they buried the harami's head somewhere in the courtyard.
A wedding association was established. A legendary wedding was held.
Ali Baba and his children have always lived like roses in every era, thanks to their untouched, inexhaustible treasures.
Moreover, they learned the easy part.
When they are strapped for money;
– “Open sesame, open!” they called out.
All doors were opened for them.
I passed by that open door too, but I couldn't bring you anything but apples.
Three magic apples that fell from the sky. One for the person who wrote this tale, one for the listener, and one for the reader...
