Have you gotten a chance to fail yet: 7 lessons you can learn from failure.
It was in the beginning of summer
I stared into the sky with a question in my mind
Why me?
I mean, I am a young fellow
Why do I need to experience this
I had started a small venture with some friends
Spurned on by family and those around me
I thought it was destined for success
Little did I know that fate had other plans
Over half a year and the venture is not going as planned
All the resources poured in seem to have gone down the drain
However, I remained hopeful and took notes
We decided it was time to move on to something else
poured all of our leftover resources into this new idea
Skeptic at first, but still hopeful
It's not been long, but things are looking better
The forecast shows that there is a bright future ahead for this new venture
All our previous failures have taught us an important lesson
And all we have learnt previously; we put in this new one
Making sure we don't make the same mistakes
Although, success is not set in stone
We are optimistic that this would work
Now I look at the sky with a thought in my mind
And I ask, Why not me?
Excerpts:
Failure like other tests seems like it is the end. However, there is more to the journey. From every setback, there is a lesson to learn, and that lesson, sometimes, can only be learned from that setback. It may seem like all is lost and that failure is all but certain, but, if you look closely you will see that the steps that led you to that moment can be documented and learned from.
In a popular story I am sure you have all heard, the inventor who created the light bulb failed a couple of times before getting it right. He commented that he didn't fail but learned how not to create the light bulb. I think we should all have that mentality. Just believe you have not failed but figured out how not to do it yet. I assure you by the time you finally do get it right, the success will be worth it.
5 lessons to learn from failure
Knowing and accepting when you have failed
Having failed before teaches you how to know when you have failed at something and how to accept it. This sounds easy enough, but some of us don't still know what failure looks like and continue to toil in vain. Knowing what failure looks like would enable cut your losses, learn from it, and move on to the next adventure.
It teaches you to be rational
Failure teaches you to be rational in your thinking. To sort of analyze things logically and know what the next step is. Without undergoing some failures some lessons and things cannot be learned.
Analyzing situations from a different perspective
Failure also teaches an individual how to be adaptable. That is, how to be flexible in certain situations. A failure can teach you that that approach might not work and you switch to another. same idea just a different tactic of execution.
Evaluating the steps that led to the failure
Failure allows you to ask certain questions and discover the steps you took that led to that failure in the first place. Think of it like a guide map and just retracing your steps to identify the faults in the decision process you took. It allows you to try again! In real life!
It teaches you to know when to ask for help
Failure teaches you when it's time to know that you can't handle some situations on your own and either ask for help or seek assistance. The help could be from family, friends, or colleagues.
Helps you to be empathetic
Before failing most people think they are bigger than life. However, failure helps them become mild and gentle. They suddenly realize it is not all about them and their ambition and come to understand people and events more. They become compassionate towards others who have failed before them and to those who are currently failing.
Helps you learn new ways to cope
Coping with stress and emotions before failing might be easy. But, when an individual fails, different emotions begin to overwhelm them and this leads to stress and emotional disturbance. It is at this time that people learn how to cope with stress associated with failure and emotions such as doubt and lack of self-belief. They deal with this and become stronger and can grow.
In conclusion, there is no need to be afraid of failure. It is there to teach us how to appreciate success. So whenever you fail, remember, that it is not the end of the world, neither is it the end of the road, and you can try, try, and try again.
