Entitlement

A sense of entitlement is a personality trait that stems from the belief that someone is entitled to preferential treatment or recognition for something they did not earn. In other words, people who have this mindset believe that the world owes them nothing in return.
Children's feelings of entitlement are not always negative. Children rely on their caregivers at all stages of development. However, as children grow older and more self-sufficient, wanting other people's help becomes less practical and detracts from working toward self-sufficiency.
Signs of a sense of entitlement
- They believe they are entitled to preferential treatment. People who have a sense of entitlement expect to receive preferential treatment and special favors in life, regardless of why they should be treated differently. "The world owes me," they believe. For example, they may believe that an organization's policies should not apply to them because they should be treated differently.
- They believe they are entitled to more than they currently have. They always believe that they deserve more, no matter what they have. They expect to live a better lifestyle than others without putting in the necessary effort.
- Their personal needs take precedence over everyone else's. If you require assistance, do not expect them to stop what they are doing to assist you. They believe it is your responsibility to make sure they have everything they require, even if it means you don't have time to take care of your own responsibilities.
- When someone refuses to give in to their demands, they will make a big fuss. When things do not go their way, they can be quite dramatic. When a friend or family member acts like this, you know it's best to avoid them. Otherwise, they will try to improve their own image by bringing you down.
- They act as victims, blaming others or external forces for their problems. If someone in your life feels like bad things always happen to them, they may have a sense of entitlement. Someone with this attitude believes that the world owes them and that it is the responsibility of others to make their lives better.
