Liv Tyler

Liv Rundgren Tyler, born on July 1, 1977, is an accomplished American actress who commenced her career in the modeling industry at the age of 14. She made her film debut in Silent Fall (1994) and quickly garnered critical acclaim with leading roles in films such as Heavy and Empire Records (both 1995), along with That Thing You Do! and Stealing Beauty (both 1996).

Tyler's diverse filmography continued with appearances in Inventing the Abbotts (1997), Armageddon (1998), Cookie's Fortune, and Onegin (both 1999), followed by Dr. T & the Women (2000) and One Night at McCool's (2001).

Notably, Tyler portrayed the elf Arwen Undómiel in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001–2003), contributing to one of the highest-grossing film series in history.

Post the success of Lord of the Rings, Tyler embraced a variety of roles in films such as Jersey Girl (2004), Lonesome Jim (2005), Reign Over Me (2007), The Strangers, The Incredible Hulk (both 2008), Robot & Frank (2012), Space Station 76 (2014), Wildling (2018), and Ad Astra (2019).

Beyond film, she ventured into television, starring in The Leftovers (2014–2017), Gunpowder (2017), Harlots (2018–2019), and 9-1-1: Lone Star (2020).

Apart from her acting career, Tyler is a singer and has collaborated with composer Howard Shore. She appeared as a guest vocalist on The Lemonheads' album Varshons (2009), covering Leonard Cohen's "Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye." Her vocal talents also featured on the bonus disk of Evan Dando's album Baby I'm Bored (2003). In 2011, Tyler released her debut single, Need You Tonight.

In addition to her artistic pursuits, Tyler has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for the United States since 2003. She has also served as a spokesperson for Givenchy's line of perfume and cosmetics. Born to Steven Tyler and Bebe Buell, Tyler maintains a close relationship with her adoptive father, Todd Rundgren.

Liv Rundgren Tyler was born on July 1, 1977, in New York City at Mount Sinai Hospital. She is the only daughter of Bebe Buell, a model, singer, and former Playboy Playmate, and Steven Tyler, the lead singer of Aerosmith. Bebe Buell named her after Norwegian actress Liv Ullmann, having seen Ullmann on the cover of the March 5, 1977, issue of TV Guide.

Tyler's diverse ancestry includes Italian from her great-grandfather, Polish, German, English, and African-American from her paternal great-great-great-great-grandfather. She has three half-siblings: Mia Tyler born 1978, Chelsea Anna Tyler Foster (née Tallarico; born 1989, and Taj Monroe Tallarico born 1991. Tyler's maternal grandmother, Dorothea Johnson, founded the Protocol School of Washington.

During the years 1972 to 1979, Bebe Buell lived with rock musician Todd Rundgren. In 1976, Buell became pregnant from a brief relationship with Steven Tyler, and she gave birth to Liv Rundgren on July 1, 1977.

At that time, she claimed that Todd Rundgren was the biological father due to Steven Tyler's well-documented struggles with drug addiction. Liv considered Todd her spiritual father, and Rundgren signed the birth certificate, acting as Liv's father figure.

He might be her father. The truth was revealed when she asked her mother. In 1991, Liv changed her surname from Rundgren to Tyler but kept Rundgren as a middle name. The reason Buell initially claimed Rundgren as Liv's father was Steven Tyler's severe drug addiction during Liv's birth.

Despite the initially complicated circumstances, Liv and Steven developed a close relationship after the truth became public in 1991. They've worked together professionally, such as in Aerosmith's "Crazy" music video in 1993 and in the film Armageddon (1998), where Aerosmith performed songs, and Liv starred. Liv also maintains a close relationship with Todd Rundgren, expressing gratitude for his role in her life.

Tyler's educational journey took her to the Congressional School of Virginia, Breakwater School, Waynflete School in Portland, Maine, York Preparatory in New York City, and the Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences in Santa Monica, California. She graduated from York in 1995 and started her acting career.

Reflecting on her youth, Tyler mentioned, For me, I didn't get much of a childhood in my teen years because I've been working since I was 14. But that also kept me out of trouble. When everybody was doing acid and partying like crazy, I was at work on a movie in Tuscany... having my own fun, of course, but it was a different kind of thing. I have no regrets. I love the way my life has gone.

Liv Tyler entered the world of modeling at the age of 14 with a helping hand from Paulina Porizkova, and her pictures ended up in Interview magazine. She later ventured into television commercials but grew bored with modeling within a year and decided to pursue acting, despite never having taken acting lessons. Tyler first gained visibility on television screens when she starred alongside Alicia Silverstone in the music video for Aerosmith's 1993 song Crazy.

Her feature film debut came in 1994 with Silent Fall, where she played the elder sister of a boy with autism. In 1995, she starred in the comedy-drama Empire Records, an experience she described as one of the best she has ever had. Soon after, Tyler landed a supporting role in James Mangold's 1995 drama Heavy, receiving favorable reviews for her charming and ingenuous performance.

Tyler's breakthrough role came in the arthouse film Stealing Beauty (1996), where she portrayed Lucy Harmon, an innocent and romantic teenager traveling to Tuscany with the intent of losing her virginity.

Despite mixed reviews for the film, Tyler's performance garnered favorable attention, with critics praising her sweetly awkward and composed portrayal. The film was directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, who chose Tyler for the role after meeting several young girls in Los Angeles, citing a unique gravitas in her.

Following Stealing Beauty, Tyler appeared in That Thing You Do! (1996), a film about a one-hit wonder rock band directed by Tom Hanks. The movie was a commercial success, grossing over $25 million worldwide and receiving positive reviews. In 1997, she played a role in Inventing the Abbotts and was chosen by People magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People.

Tyler's early career showcased her versatility and ability to captivate audiences with her performances, laying the foundation for her continued success in the entertainment industry.
