In a move that has shaken the anime world, “Tower of God” has confirmed its return with a second season as anticipated as the ascent of its protagonist, Bam, up the mysterious tower. The news, revealed during Crunchyroll Expo 2022, has created a whirlwind of excitement among fans and the industry alike.

Tower of God” is a color webtoon, created by Lee Jong Hui, known under the pseudonym Slave in Utero (SIU). The series began publication on June 30, 2010 and has been distributed for free by the Korean portal Naver. In addition, it is officially published in English and Spanish by LINE Webtoon.

The anime adaptation of “Tower of God” was initially produced by Telecom Animation Film, with Aniplex subsidiary Rialto Entertainment responsible for Japanese production, and Sola Entertainment providing production management. For the second season, the studio in charge is The Answer Studio.

The story follows Bam, a young man who enters the Tower chasing his friend Rachel. In the Tower, only the chosen ones can enter and whoever reaches the top can make any wish. Bam encounters a series of tests and challenges that he must overcome to find Rachel and reach the top of the Tower.

The first season, released in spring 2020, was a resounding success, adapting the S.I.U manhwa with a fidelity that captured both the spirit and complexity of the source material. Despite an indefinite hiatus in the publication of the manhwa due to its author's health, the anime series has found a way to continue its visually impressive and emotionally charged narrative.
The announcement was accompanied by a trailer that recaps the previous season, setting the stage for the new challenges the characters will face. Although the exact premiere date has not yet been confirmed, rumors suggest that we could expect the new season by the end of 2023.

Expectations are high, and the pressure on Crunchyroll to deliver a sequel that lives up to the debut is immense. However, if the first season is anything to go by, fans can rest assured that it will be worth the wait. With a narrative that combines action, mystery and deep character development, “Tower of God” is ready to climb even higher in the anime pantheon.
