Tyrese Darnell Gibson, born on December 30, 1978, also known mononymously as Tyrese, is an accomplished American actor and R B singer. He made his musical debut with the self-titled album Tyrese in 1998, featuring the hit single Sweet Lady, which reached number twelve on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.


Following his debut, Tyrese released his second and third albums, 2000 Watts and I Wanna Go There, in 2001 and 2002, respectively. The latter featured the lead single How You Gonna Act Like That, marking Tyrese's highest-charting single at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100.


In his fourth album, Alter Ego, Tyrese explored hip hop, and he received a Grammy Award nomination for Best R B Album for his fifth album, Open Invitation, released in 2011. Tyrese's sixth album, Black Rose , reached number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, marking his highest-charting album. With over 4 million records sold in the United States, Tyrese has solidified his presence in the music industry.


On the acting front, Tyrese had his first starring role in John Singleton's coming-of-age hood film Baby Boy and gained widespread recognition as Roman Pearce in the Fast & Furious franchise. Tyrese Gibson was born and raised in Watts, Los Angeles, California. His mother, Priscilla Murray Gibson , played the role of a single parent, raising Tyrese and his three older siblings after his father, Tyrone Gibson, left. Growing up on 113th Street in Watts during the late 80s, Tyrese was exposed to the presence of gangs, and some of his childhood friends became members of the Crips.


In his autobiography, Tyrese acknowledged that an older gangster named Dirtbike Fred played a pivotal role in encouraging him to choose a different path. Despite the challenges of the environment, Tyrese graduated from Locke High School in 1996.


Tyrese Gibson's career took off when he auditioned for a Coca-Cola commercial, following the suggestion of his high school music teacher. His appearance in a 1994 Coca-Cola advertisement, where he sang the famous phrase Always Coca-Cola, catapulted him into greater fame.


This commercial not only increased his visibility but also opened doors for other opportunities, including appearances in ads for Guess and Tommy Hilfiger. The commercial served as a stepping stone for Tyrese, propelling him towards a successful career in the entertainment industry.


Tyrese Gibson's musical journey began when he signed with RCA Records in early 1998. His debut single Nobody Else quickly climbed the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at No. 36. Tyrese released his self-titled album Tyrese on September 29, 1998, at the age of 19, which debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard charts. Tyrese's sixth studio album, Black Rose, released in 2015, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In 2017, he announced the project Identity Theft, focusing on his hip-hop roots, but it was retooled into an R B album titled Beautiful Pain, rumored to be released in late 2023.


In addition to his music career, Tyrese gained recognition as an actor, starring in films like Baby Boy and the Fast & Furious franchise. He also appeared on The Masked Singer in season five as Robopine.


In 2009, Tyrese Gibson co-created a three-issue comic book titled Tyrese Gibson's MAYHEM! This venture was inspired by his visit to Comic Con, showcasing his interest in the comic book world.


On May 8, 2012, Gibson expanded his creative endeavors by releasing his first book, titled How to Get Out of Your Own Way. This book went on to become a New York Times bestseller, reflecting its popularity and positive reception.


Continuing his success as an author, on February 5, 2013, Tyrese Gibson co-authored his second book with his close personal friend Rev. Run. The book, titled Manology: Secrets of Your Man's Mind Revealed, also achieved New York Times bestseller status, affirming Gibson's ability to connect with readers through his written work.
