Zelensky confirms that the situation is getting worse for Ukraine on the Donetsk front.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky explained in his address to the nation on Sunday night that the situation is worsening for Ukraine on the front in the eastern Donetsk region, thus confirming the warning made a day earlier by the head of the Army, Oleksandr Sirski, on the deteriorating situation on the Eastern Front.

“The situation on the front in this intense war is always tough. But these days, especially in the Donetsk area, it is getting worse”, Zelensky said in his speech, in which he thanked the brigades that protect those and other areas of the line of contact.

The head of the Ukrainian Army had warned on Saturday during a visit to the area that the situation had “worsened significantly in recent days” on the eastern front, due to the increase in Russian offensive actions on Ukrainian positions around Limán. and Bakhmut. General Sirski himself declared on Sunday that Russia "concentrates its efforts on breaking" the Ukrainian defensive lines west of the occupied city of Bakhmut, on advancing towards the Siversky Donets-Dombas canal and on capturing the settlement of Chasiv Yar, about twenty kilometers west of Bakhmut.

Russia, added the head of the Ukrainian Army, also seeks to “create the conditions” to intensify its advance towards the city of Kramatorsk. According to Sirski, Russian military commanders have set a goal of taking Chasiv Yar before May 9, when Russia commemorates the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. In addition to Sirski, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umérov, has also visited the Eastern Front, who has warned along the same lines as the general that Russia is concentrating troops to break the Ukrainian lines west of Bakhmut.
