What the papers say

Bruno Guimaraes could be on the way out at Newcastle in an effort to satisfy Premier League financial rules. According to The Sun, club bosses believe they will face an uphill battle to keep the midfielder, with French giants Paris St Germain leading the chase for his signature.

The Evening Standard says Manchester United have commenced discussions about signing Nice defender Melvin Bard. The 23-year-old is said to be on the verge of a call up for France, and has emerged as an ideal candidate for the Red Devils as they look to bolster their squad with a new left-back.

Leeds are eyeing a return for Kalvin Phillips the Daily Star reports. The midfielder has made just six starts for Manchester City since making a £50million move to the Etihad from Leeds back in 2022. He is currently on loan at West Ham, but it is believed City would be willing to sell him for around £25m, with Leeds among his potential suitors – pending their promotion.

And The Times says Wolves defender Max Kilman is on Manchester United’s summer transfer shortlist.

Chelsea vs Man Utd: Preview, predictions and lineups
Chelsea will lock horns with Man Utd at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening
Both sides come into the game off the back of underwhelming draws in the Premier League
The Blues currently sit in the bottom half, while Man Utd are fighting for an unlikely top four spot

It's the battle of the crisis clubs on Thursday evening as Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

The Blues may be met with a frosty reception from their supporters in west London after stumbling to an embarrassing 2-2 draw with ten-man Burnley last time out. Cole Palmer's brace wasn't enough as the Clarets twice pegged back Mauricio Pochettino's side, who currently sit in the bottom half of the table.

Man Utd somehow managed a point against Brentford in their most recent outing despite being outplayed by the Bees for the majority of the match, with Mason Mount's 97th-minute strike cancelled out by Kristoffer Ajer's even later stoppage-time effort. The result has left the Red Devils' hopes of Champions League qualification in serious jeopardy.

Here's 90min's guide to Man Utd vs Chelsea on Thursday.

Ben Chilwell

Chelsea have a long list of injuries to contend with ahead of Man Utd's visit, with a number of key absentees across the pitch.

Chelsea will be without their first-choice left-back, with Ben Chilwell recovering from illness after missing the Burnley clash through injury. Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill are all absent in the defence as well, while Lesley Ugochukwu is also missing further forward.

Romeo Lavia is out for the rest of the season and Christopher Nkunku remains unavailable after suffering a hamstring injury during the Carabao Cup final in February.

However, the good news for Pochettino is that Malo Gusto and Trevoh Chalobah are both available having been injury doubts, while Robert Sanchez and Carnery Chukwuemeka have returned to training and could therefore be involved.

Man Utd's injury woes looked to be easing up ahead of the run-in, but the club were dealt more bad news following the draw with Brentford. Despite Lisandro Martinez having just returned from injury against the Bees, he is now out for another month after injuring himself in training, while fellow centre-back Victor Lindelof is also missing for a similar amount of time.

Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans were also doubts for the clash with Chelsea on Thursday, the former being substituted at the Gtech Community Stadium, but Ten Hag has confirmed that they are back in training.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are both injured at left-back - the Englishman out for the season - while Anthony Martial and Altay Bayindir are also sidelined despite closing in on returns. Ten Hag does welcome young Amad Diallo back from suspension.

Chelsea vs Man Utd score prediction
It really is impossible to know what to expect from these sides when they meet on Thursday, with Man Utd edging the reverse fixture back in December. The points are more crucial for the visitors, however, with Champions League qualification still technically up for grabs.

The inconsistencies of both teams makes it a tough one to predict, with Chelsea and Man Utd potentially cancelling one another out at Stamford Bridge. It has the potential to be a thriller or a stinker.

Prediction: Chelsea 1-1 Man Utd

The end of the Premier League season is rapidly approaching, and teams in contention for the trophy will be pulling out all the stops to give themselves a fighting chance of ending the campaign on a high.

Whether it's a world-class goalscorer, a master of defence or a midfield maestro, teams will be relying on individual quality to get them over the line in 2023/24.

Here, 90min take a look at the most important player in each top six team:

Liverpool - Virgil van Dijk

Reds captain Virgil van Dijk has established himself as one of the finest defenders in the world since joining Liverpool in January 2018.

After facing some criticism for his performances following his initial return from a serious injury, Van Dijk has been firmly back to his best 2023/24.

There's no doubt that the club captain will key to Liverpool's title ambitions in the final few weeks of the campaign.

Arsenal - Kai Havertz
Kai Havertz

No one in the Arsenal squad divides opinion quite like him, but there's a reason 'Kai Havertz scores again' can be heard ringing around the Emirates more often than not.

Mikel Arteta has awakened the fight inside Havertz, who has become a real asset in the final third thanks to his auxiliary attacking role in the team - making up for the Gunners' lack of an outright centre-forward.

Havertz will be vital for Arsenal's Premier League title ambitions, and will be expected to bag key goals in their pursuit of a first title in two decades.

Man City - Rodri

Manchester City boast some incredible talent, but Rodri is perhaps the most important of the lot.

When Rodri is out of the team, panic starts to spread. In fact, when he was absent due to suspension, City lost all three games, but as soon as he returned, so did the wins.

If they're to claw their way back to the top of the standings before now and the end of the season, Rodri will be key.

Aston Villa - Ollie Watkins

This season is proving to be Ollie Watkins' best since his move from Brentford in 2020. He's the reason why Aston Villa are sitting in fourth in the Premier League, and he'll be reason they stay there if he continues his fine form in front of goal.

He's played 30 games in the top-flight this season and has bagged 16 goals and 10 assists in that time.

Watkins has been genuinely outstanding for Aston Villa. He's a complete centre forward, and has helped make Villa one of the most feared teams in the league.

Tottenham - Son Heung-min

Son Heung-min is one of the most consistent players in the Premier League, an influential character who is now the fifth-highest goalscorer in Tottenham's history.

He's a modern icon at the Lilywhites, and has taken to life as the club's captain like a duck to water by scoring 15 times in 27 appearances in his first season with the armband.

Goals come naturally to the 31-year-old, making him one of the most important components of Spurs' attack.

Man Utd - Alejandro Garnacho

19-year-old Alejandro Garnacho is one of the most exciting young talents in the world, nevermind just the Premier League.

The Argentine is a wonderfully effective player in the final third, but he has also made huge strides in his defensive work this season too. He's made 27 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring five goals in those games.

Garnacho is also an incredible team player, forming formidable partnerships with youngsters Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund already.
