WHO'S WHAT SUPERMAN?

Superman was created in 1933 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. When the character was first conceived, put on paper and published in a fan fiction magazine, the character was conceived as a bald-headed supervillain with telepathic powers, whose name was "Super-Man" and who wanted to rule the world. In fact, the story that this Character appeared in was called "The Reign of Super-Man".


But the character from that first issue never caught on. He never appeared again, but he inspired the character of Lex Luthor, who would later become Superman's greatest enemy.

Later Siegel and Shuster made the character more heroic. They called him Superman. At first they were not successful in selling the character. Their first meeting was with Tip Top Comics and they rejected it. But Siegel and Shuster kept the character colorful and science fictional. The character's name Clark Kent was a combination of the names of famous actors of the time, Clark Gable and Kent Taylor.

The Clark Kent look was based on another actor, Harold Floyd. For the Superman look, it was based on the youth of the actor Douglas Fairbanks. However, much later, after Christopher Reeve, the unforgettable actor of the famous Superman movies that came at the end of the 1970s, we can say that Superman had the perfect blended image. Eventually, the duo managed to sell the character and his story to Detective Comics (now known as DC Comics) before the end of the 1930s. DC Comics began publishing Superman as a subsidiary of Action Comics.


Of course, since the era is the post-Depression America and the beginning of World War II, the character is initially conceived in a science fictional universe with mythological references, but suddenly finds himself in the universe and identity of a military and patriotic hero. Influenced by mythological myths such as Samson, Hercules, Moses, Atlas and modern heroes of the time (comic book heroes) such as Doc Savage, Superman becomes someone who tries to make the world a better place instead of the villain and world conquering plans he was when he was first conceived. It didn't take long for issues to appear in which he even took on the dictatorial militaristic leaders of the time, Hitler and Stalin.

Action Comics #1 - Superman, Champion of the Oppressed... was first published in June 1938.

His fictional career continues to this day as the first example, the most iconic and the most ideal of his genre (Superhero). He is the first figure that comes to mind when you think of a Super Hero. He has been imitated many times, some of his imitations have disappeared from the comics landscape, others have found a place of their own, but none have been able to replace the original Big Blue Boy Scout.
