Kaitlyn Rochelle Dever, born on December 21, 1996, is an American actress known for her versatile roles across television and film. She gained recognition for her performances in several notable series, including "Justified" (2011–2015), "Last Man Standing" (2011–2021), "Unbelievable" (2019), and "Dopesick" (2021). Her portrayal in "Unbelievable" and "Dopesick" earned her Golden Globe Award nominations, while her performance in "Dopesick" also garnered a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
In addition to her television work, Dever has taken on supporting roles in various films such as "Bad Teacher" (2011), "The Spectacular Now" (2013), "Short Term 12" (2013), "Detroit" (2017), "Beautiful Boy" (2018), "Dear Evan Hansen" (2021), and "Ticket to Paradise" (2022). She has also starred in leading roles in films like "Them That Follow" (2019), "Booksmart" (2019), "Rosaline" (2022), and "No One Will Save You" (2023).
Kaitlyn Rochelle Dever was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on December 21, 1996, to Kathy and Tim Dever. Her parents were ice skating coaches, with her father also having voiced Barney the Dinosaur from 1999 to 2001 and co-owned a pretzel shop in Philadelphia called Pretzel Boy. Kaitlyn has two younger sisters named Mady and Jane.
From a young age, Kaitlyn showed interest in the performing arts, and her parents enrolled her in acting school at the age of five after noticing her passion. Although she was involved in activities like ballet, gymnastics, and ice skating, she decided to pursue acting after being inspired by Toni Collette's performance in "The Sixth Sense" (1999). The family later moved to Dallas, where Kaitlyn filmed several commercials before eventually settling in Los Angeles.
Kaitlyn Dever's acting career began to gain traction with her role as Gwen Thompson in the 2009 film "An American Girl: Chrissa Stands Strong." However, it was in 2011 that she achieved her breakthrough with the role of Loretta McCready in the FX series "Justified." Concurrently, she was cast as a series regular in the ABC sitcom "Last Man Standing," starring alongside Tim Allen.
Throughout her career, Dever has appeared in various television shows, including "Make It or Break It," "Modern Family," "Private Practice," "Party Down," "The Mentalist," and "Curb Your Enthusiasm." In 2011, she also appeared in films such as "Cinema Verite," "Bad Teacher," and Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar."

Kaitlyn Dever's career continued to flourish in 2018 with minor roles in the political drama "The Front Runner" and the biographical drama "Beautiful Boy," where she starred alongside Timothée Chalamet. Additionally, Dever, along with her younger sister Mady, contributed to the 2018 film "Tully" as part of the musical duo Beulahbelle. Their debut single "Raleigh" was released in February 2020.
In early 2019, Dever appeared in the drama-thriller film "Them That Follow" and starred in the critically acclaimed teen comedy "Booksmart," directed by Olivia Wilde. Her performance in "Booksmart" received widespread praise, showcasing her versatility as an actress. In 2020, Dever continued to diversify her roles, appearing in the Quibi comedy series "Home Movie: The Princess Bride" and the Audible audio drama "When You Finish Saving the World." She also starred in the television special "Coastal Elites" and was cast as Zoe Murphy in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical "Dear Evan Hansen."
Dever's presence in television expanded with appearances in the anthology series "Monsterland" and B.J. Novak's FX series "The Premise" in 2021. She also starred in the title role of the film "Rosaline" and played Betsy Mallum in the Hulu miniseries "Dopesick," earning a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
In 2023, Dever starred in the sci-fi thriller film "No One Will Save You," receiving acclaim for her ability to convey emotion through facial expressions without much dialogue. In January 2024, it was announced that she would join the cast of the second season of "The Last of Us" as Abby, further solidifying her place in both film and television.
