Raised in New York City with his fraternal twin brother, Paul, Vin Diesel's mother, Delora Sherleen Vincent (née Sinclair), is an astrologer, while his adoptive father, Irving H. Vincent, was an African-American acting instructor and theater manager.

Diesel has mentioned that he is "of ambiguous ethnicity," with his mother having Scottish roots. His biological father is unknown to him, and he believes that his parents' relationship might have been considered illegal in certain parts of the United States due to anti-miscegenation laws.

Vin Diesel made his debut in the entertainment world at the age of seven, appearing in the children's play "Dinosaur Door." This opportunity arose when Diesel, along with his brother and friends, intended to vandalize the Theater for the New City in New York's Greenwich Village.
