A Design community is a place where people converge to talk about design-related topics, ask for feedback about their work, share resources, job application links, and lots more. In modern society, these design communities are mostly on social media such as Twitter, WhatsApp, and Facebook.
Here are 5 benefits of design communities.

  1. Boosting your confidence: Design communities have a way of building one's confidence, you get to relate with a lot of people, they give you feedback on your projects and when implemented properly, it gives you confidence about your work. aside from that, I have seen people who couldn't speak to a crowd learn to speak at Tech events, gatherings, Twitter spaces, and the rest, and these people started speaking at small gatherings organized by their design communities to events on google meets and Twitter spaces and then live events.
  2. They Encourage you to start new things: I like to use practical examples, I know a girl who joined a design community and had a passion for accessibility, but she didn't know how to go about it or where to start, the community encouraged her, some people shared resources, they organized virtual events and invited her to speak about accessibility and she kept doing it over and over again until she got an invite to speak about accessibility at one of the biggest Tech events in her country. The design community pushed her to do what she loved the most and put her in the spotlight, and now she is being seen.
  3. Sharing of different design processes: When all you see is your own design process or your company’s design process, you can be unsure how it holds up. In design communities, you get to see the different processes people use to solve a design problem, this could be of great help to you because all you might need to be a great designer was the small tiny detail u were missing and seeing how other people work could be a great fix.
  4. Providing help: Sometimes, it can be hard to feel confident; what can help you get over imposter syndrome is providing help for someone else. There is a saying that the greatest way to learn is to teach someone else what you know. Maybe that impostor syndrome you are dealing with only requires you to teach someone else what you know. by teaching someone else, you understand better and you leave a positive impact in the life of another which is also regarded as an investment.
  5. Relatable struggles: In the design communities, you will find people who have been through the same struggles you have been through. From rejection emails, toxic workplaces, stubborn clients, impostor syndrome, confusion, burn outs, and lots more. Everyone has been through rough patches and seeing people who can relate to your struggles can even boost your mental health.
