Solana ETF is this a good thing or a bad thing

Good morning/evening

Now all the talk of a spot Solana ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) has made me think about my Solana bag. I first wrote about buying my first SOL back in November 2022. This was just after the FTX collapse. I would like to say that it was a thoroughly researched and informed decision but it was not, I was undecided and it was to me, back then just a 50/50 gamble. I was not sure if SOL would die or rebound eventually, but I got some anyway.

I had hope, there was still development and some good partnerships, now I wish I had got more that day but once Helium moved to Solana in April 2023 I chipped in my IOT earnings every now and then and swapped it to either BTC or SOL, this was just a regular DCA plan but it does eventually build up quite nicely. I did also find a SOL in a wallet I had not used so that was a nice surprise as I had paid very little for it! I have also acquired more SOL in the odd dip so much so that SOL is now my second largest holding behind BTC. I love transacting on Solana as it costs next to nothing and is really fast. (I'm cheap lol)
Now I never thought there would be talk of a SOL ETF, I find the whole ETF thing a double edged sword, yes the coin/token gets legitimised to some degree but those big boys can buy a huge chunk, but they can also sell a huge chunk too.

Solana good points.

  1. High Throughput and Scalability  Solana is capable of handling thousands of transactions per second (TPS) transactions are really quick.
  2. Low Transaction Costs  Solana has extremely low fees, making it great for regular transactions.
  3. Strong Ecosystem and Development  Solana has a rapidly growing ecosystem, with many DeFi projects, and NFT marketplaces built on its platform as well as a great blogging site https://www.bulbapp.io/
  4. Active Community  Solana benefits from a strong community of developers, users, and investors.
  5. Performance and Reliability The development team has been working on addressing these issues with many upgrades.

I prefer self custody so an ETF is not for me but I can see there will be some advantages and disadvantages, for the people who do not want to self custody, use exchanges and have wallets then I can see the appeal. Then there are the fees associated with fund management that would probably put me off. There does seem to be a few of the big players interested in a Solana ETF but then if it does get approved I am sure it will only be available to high net worth investors!.

Solana not so good points.

  1. Network Outages Recently the blockchain did halt but it was back up and running quickly.
  2. Centralization Concerns  Critics point out that Solana's validator network is relatively centralized compared to some other blockchains. This centralization can lead to concerns about security.
  3. Market Volatility  Like all cryptocurrencies, Solana can be quite volitile at times.

So what are your thoughts on this? Are all these ETFs good for crypto? Do you think there will be a Solana ETF? I think it is possible but probably not this year.
