NDI IGBO
Past tragedies can't keep us down Shackles break loose at the might of our resolve
We stay down not for long
For though we fall, constantly we rise
Fearing no being, not god nor man Confined not to our forest roots
We tread the globe from coast to coast Treasures great we seek and find
Our gifts in our neighbours fear evoke And violence it does sometimes provoke They seem to fear the man from the east
More indeed than any disease
Demigods indeed we know we are
And to no man allegiance owe
Industry, nature's gift to us bequeath They misconstrue for brazen pride
But not for long shall evil thrive
Time this truth hath always shown
Love at last will always triumph
Over whatsoever hate there be.
The Igbos are a major ethnic group in Nigeria. They are indigenous to the South Eastern part of Nigeria. They are also found in large numbers in Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon. The might of their resolve was made popular by the story of the Igbo landing.
