In a world of bad news, angst, and anger, it's rare to find a glimmer of hope on social media - especially a platform as fiery as Twitter. But for those of us still trying to connect with our friends and colleagues on the beleaguered platform, we're happy to great each day with news from our favorite rescue pup: Sophie.
Sophie (#SophieFromRomania) is a newly adopted dog from - wait for it - Romania, and adjusting to new life in the UK with her humans. Retired BBC tech correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones and University of Cambridge professor Diane Coyle have begun documenting (via Twitter and other social media platforms) the slow process of welcoming their new furry family addition.
Anyone who has adopted a rescued pet can commiserate with the sometimes slow and frustrating process of acclimating their new pet to their new surroundings. In the case of Cellan-Jones and Coyle, it's especially poignant as they decided to adopt from a charity in the UK that helps rehome stray pups from Romania. Sophie endured a long transport, and found herself in unfamiliar surroundings, unused to a loving family.
Over the past week or two, Twitter users have come to rally behind Sophie and her new family, watching as she timidly ventures out from her safe space behind the couch to enjoy a few treats. Over the last few days, she's even consented to a few gentle pets and a rare trip to the backyard.
If you're looking for a glimpse of the positive in your Twitter feed, be sure to give Cellan-Jones and Coyle a follow for all the latest updates as they welcome Sophie into her new home...and her new life.
