The bridges of Xudafar, which are believed to have been built approximately eight to nine hundred years ago, connected the northern and southern shores of the Araz River. These bridges are located in the Jabrayil region of Azerbaijan. Once upon a time, one of the bridges located on the Silk Road had fifteen crossings and the other had eleven crossings. Both bridges, which are magnificent examples of architecture, testify to the high craftsmanship of Azerbaijani builders of the middle century. In the fifteen-mile bridge, the widely spread mixed hump - brick and stone hump style in the national Azerbaijani architecture was skillfully used. Since its walls were built on natural stones, the bridges of Xudafar were able to withstand the floods of history for a long time. The length of the fifteen-step bridge made of brick and tea stone is nearly 200 meters, its width is 4.5 meters, its length is 12 meters from the level of the tea and it is considered a monument of the 12th century. The second Xudafarin bridge, built approximately 750 meters apart, has eleven crossings. It is believed that this bridge, built entirely of stone and covered with well-cut large stone slabs, was built in the 13th century, during the Elkhanid period. At the time, only three of the eleven crossings remained safe from the bridge, which was approximately 130 meters long, 6 meters wide, and 12 meters wide at the river level.
What have not the bridges of Xudafar witnessed? The feudal wars of the middle centuries, the march of Agha Mohammed Shah Qajar to Azerbaijan, the Russian-Iranian wars, the repressions of the Soviet regime, the occupation of Gabriel by Armenia in the late 20th century and the year 2020. Gabriel's liberation from occupation in October... According to what is said, it was possible to go back and forth with the second bridge, which remained relatively safe in the 1930s. In order to cut off relations between the northern and southern parts of Azerbaijan in both provinces, the coastal mountains of the Gulf were destroyed by a joint decision of Iran and the USSR. From time to time, the locals call the gulp by a second name – Sınıq gulp. Writer Farman Karimzade, who is the author of a number of works on historical subjects, has a novel called "Xudaferin Korpüsü".
