Scientific research: Chimpanzees chat too
Scientists have found that chimpanzees converse like humans.
Scientists have found that the speech patterns and communication styles of wild chimpanzees are similar to humans.
According to BBC, researchers analyzed the interactions of more than 250 chimpanzees from 5 wild chimpanzee communities in the forests of Uganda and Tanzania. The study revealed that wild chimpanzees, like humans, speak quickly, take turns and wait for their turn to speak.
According to the study, when wild chimpanzees exchange information, they make “fast-paced turns” and occasionally interrupt each other.
Professor Cat Hobaiter from the University of St. Andrews ( founded 1413) , one of the research team, pointed out that the speech of wild chimpanzees has deep evolutionary similarities with humans. Pointing out that rapid turn-taking is a distinctive feature of human dialog, Professor Hobaiter noted that humans speak at 200 millisecond intervals, while chimpanzees communicate at slightly longer intervals.
